On The Sun website it says than given that Alison King and Craig Charles have quit, soap bosses have reassured fans that they're favourite characters will be on the soap for a while yet.

The deluded bosses under The Hat have signed up Brooke Vincent, Jenni McCalpine and Kym Marsh with long contracts to ensure they stay for a while yet.

Who's next? Anthony Cotton with a life contract?

Seriously?

Not only is Corrie awful right now, but they are making sure they keep hold of the unpopular characters while the best ones depart.

Alison King is taking a break I think.

They have no idea - they keep handing out new contracts to deadwood characters for a start so that really says it all doesn't it!

It has been awful, but I have noticed a slight improvement in quality over the past couple of weeks.
Still think Callum and his merry men are a horrible, sub-standard addition to the show though!

It's slightly improve but still needs a clear out.

It does need a clear out but the wrong actors are been given new contracts!

The fans 'favourites' may be still there as they say, thats not the problem with the soap atm - its the storylines.

I don't believe the break reports re: Carla, the minute other work was mentioned was the minute you knew she was a goner.

The cast isn't a problem.

It's the day Ken, Emily, Rita, Audrey and Gail leave, that Corrie will lose it's identity.

The cast ATM is quite strong. Alison King is a huge loss to the show and Lloyd has been there for a long time and is also quite popular, deadwood or not. Having lost Hayley, Deirdre, Peter, Tina, Owen, Becky, Rob, Marcus, Dennis and more all within a few years is so bad for the show, but there's still many characters who I care about and have been there for a long time.

Like 'Pearly' said it's the horrific storylines that are bringing the show down.

Gone are the days of fantastic storylines like Richard Hillman, Gail/Joe, Tony Gordon, Mad Maya, Kirsty/Tyrone and many more. These days the show is just full of random storylines that bore me to tears like David/Callum/Sarah, Billy/Sean, Fake Gavin, pregnant Faye (So pointless), and many more.

It's the cast and the light hearted scenes that make this show watchable.

I'm inclined to say that the minute the bosses feel they have to reassure viewers that there is no crisis, there is definitely a crisis!

It's a bit like football clubs issuing statements to say that they are 100% behind the manager ... Before sacking him the following weekend!

Corrie is in an absolute state. The main problem is the character development and writing, there are no strong storylines and some very lazy writing to cover exits like, for example, Paula Jones. Personally I don't think the new characters are working well but I guess we have to give them time. The best thing that I can say is that the program is in a state of transition. We have lost some big characters in Hayley, Peter, Tina and now in Carla. Personally I don't think the new characters are working well but I guess we have to give them time. The best thing that I can say is that the program is in a state of transition. We have lost some big characters in Hayley, Peter, Tina and now Carla. So far I don't see the likes of the Nazirs, Michael, Callum and Bethany filling those shoes!!!

It begins and ends with the WRITING and STORYLINING - and Corrie's failing on both counts. Where did it all go wrong?

I agree. I do not think Alison King will be back if she gets good work offers.

Not sure Lloyd is a 'fan favourite' though. No disrespect to Craig Charles, but he isn't a big loss, unlike Alison King.

Too many episodes each week does not help. same old stories being rehashed again and again and ridiculous sensationalist stories

How on earth can they say it's not in crisis, it's dreadful.
The story lines are an absolute joke especially the Sarah, Bethany and Callum rubbish. They need to get real, get some decent writers in with plausible story lines.
Get in some decent actors that can act.
Maybe then, the street will be safe.

This place is a bit of a parallel universe though, in the outside world Michelle and fiz are very popular characters, and sophie is like that old pair of slippers,

I'm with this place though can't stand them, I can live with Michelle, but can't recall seeing sophie with a smile on her face in 2015

Extending the contracts of Kim Ryder/Marsh/whatever current name is, Sophie Webster and Fiz is really nothing to be announced with such a fanfare. As someone else said, the producers clearly live in a parallel world in which these characters are popular, as it's not the world I live in!

Too many cast members are leaving en masse for there not to be something going on behind the scenes.

Do they really think they can soften the blow that Alison King is leaving by telling us Michelle the harridan, sulky misery Sophie and simpering Fiz are sticking around to bore us long term?!

Coronation Street bosses can 'tell' viewers that their show isn't in crisis as much as they want to, even though it does seem to be pretty darn conceited of them indeed, but in the end it's the viewers who will decide whether the show is in crisis or not, we are the ones with our fingers on the remotes after all, not they, Yeah feel the power kids!

Just read earlier that now Max is going to go missing. Well, duh, doesn't every flipping child under the age of ten simply have to have their 'missing, presumed going to be found by teatime episode'! Just like every single woman who gets pregnant after a random encounter mostly with Nick will have a miscarriage because someone upsets them, or it's inconvenient because the character isn't meant to hang around.

It's like soap opera groundhog day for the barely concious. Can't believe the level of insult to the senses anymore. In fact it's fascinating what they're getting away with.
Bet ya the next storyline will have Des Lennis turn killer, no serial killer and begin to murder everyone except the immortal Gail, Then Gail herself gets framed for his evil deeds and ends up in the jailhouse in the next street and there is a national campaign to get her freed by people that miss her sighing over her sappy sons and precocious daughter and her mini me child.

And so it goes on and on forever amen.

Fiz has got to be the worst character in Corrie. She's just so boring and brings nothing to the show what so ever. I haven't even missed her since she's been gone.

I feel the same. While she's been away, I've completely forgotten about her until Tyrone randomly mentions her or when it was announced Jenny McAlpine was back to filming on here. With her not there, I'm not exactly enthralled by Corrie, but it's easy to watch and I enjoy some scenes here and there (David or Tim's funny scenes) and I'm curious about where this Jenny Bradley stuff is going. But when Fiz is on screen, she ruins my enjoyment because I just feel irritated at the sight of her and I dread her being a part of any storylines.

These articles seem to reappear every year. I've lost count of the times I've read about Kym Marsh's six-figure contracts but they have never managed to convince me that TPTB are that desperate to hang onto her. In reality, I think most of the actors and characters they (The Sun, Mirror etc.) insist are indispensable to Corrie could very easily be replaced.

Unlike the brilliant Alison King; who I think embodies every quality an actress at the forefront of the show should have. She is extremely hard working, talented, dedicated, passionate about her craft, very popular with viewers, writers, directors, cast and crew. She really values her privacy and it can only be a rare but good thing for Corrie when someone so talented - who isn't interested in chasing fame - goes on to win awards for her critically acclaimed portrayal of a character other soaps can only dream of.

Spot on! The only one they should get rid of PDQ is Stuart Blackburn aka The Hat. The man is a menace to any soap he produces. He ran Emmerdale into the ground and now it is just recovering under Kate Oates. God knows how TPTB keep this "producer" on, don't the people paying for the adverts know that viewers are leaving in droves? Do they think that most people watch it because it is "good old Corrie"? I have watched it since almost day one, but I hardly watch now, it is on in the background while I do something more interesting, like de-fleaing the dog, or looking out of the window.

How many breaks do actors need, shes always off on massive holidays to America as it is.

I also think this is the problem.

The dialogue is awful at times and the actors delivering it, sometimes do so in such a half-hearted fashion because they know it's awful but hey! they get their cheque at the end of the month so what the heck.

The writers have characters using phrases and mentioning names that they are far too young to know about. It's lack of care and continuity that ruins it for me these days.

Slap dash, I calls it

Dreading Fizz's return. I haven't missed her at all.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to Kylie's return, hope she gives all those moochers at David's the boot as soon as possible.

They seem to be seriously deluded at Corrie Towers with their heads in the sand Now I see that Tony may be going - another good character with potential. Why do they think we want to see stale and unpopular characters like Michelle, Fiz and the dreadful Sean who seems to be getting a lot of air time recently. Thank goodness for fast forward as I cannot bear to watch him or his Bobby Charlton hair.
