- It's the 7th most successful single of the 2000s in the UK, higher than any Madonna single
- It was the most successful single worldwide of 2001. It was #1 on the end of the year chart
- It spent a record-breaking eight weeks at number one on the UK airplay chart and became the first song to garner 3000 radio plays in a single week
- It’s the 75th best-selling single of all time in the UK, selling 1,160,000 copies to date. Hung Up has sold 617,000 copies
- It peaked at #7 on the US Hot 100 and has been certified gold

Kylie’s never had a Believe or Hung Up style hit? Please!

When will Madonna have another super smash UK single?

I recall one of your Kylie threads being locked by a mod a few weeks ago. What’s the matter? Didn’t get enough attention last time? LOL.”

Your post sounded exactly like JakeXY above. Sorry your other account got banned. Nice try. Next.

Top selling single and highest charting position 2010 - present:

Kylie - All the Lovers (370,000) #3

Top 10 hits = 2 (All the Lovers, Higher)
Top 20 hits = 2 (Get Outta My Way, Into the Blue)

Madonna - Living for Love (40,000) #26

Top 10 hits = 0
Top 20 hits = 0

The last time Madonna released a single that sold over 300,000 copies in the UK was 4 Minutes in 2008 (507, 000). Celebration peaked at #3 in 2009, but it has only sold 135.000 copies to date, far less than All the Lovers.

Even the very average Into the Blue by Kylie peaked at #12 last year (it was in the top 10 in the midweeks) and has sold 70,000 copies to date. Its first week sales were 25,656. Living for Love peaked at #26 and has sold nearly 40,000 copies to date. Its first week sales were 17,936 copies. Not even The Brit Awards, headlines about Radio 1 and months of pre-orders proved to be enough to push LFL into the top 20. Better Than Today and Timebomb by Kylie peaked lower than LFL, but they have both sold 55,000 copies to date, 15,000 more than LFL. Kylie's total single sales so far this decade are approx. 983,278 (including Higher, 683, 278 without). Madonna's total single sales so far this decade are approx. 120,000.

Top selling album and highest charting position 2010 - present:

Kylie - Aphrodite (300,000) #1
Madonna - MDNA (135,000) #1

Kylie has sold appox. 510,000 albums so far this decade. Madonna has sold approx. 225,000 albums.

So...

Especially for You has outsold every Madonna single released in the 1980s.
Can't Get You Out of My Head has outsold every Madonna single released in the 2000s.
All the Lovers has outsold every Madonna single released in the 2010s.

Kylie (1988) has outsold every Madonna album released in the 1980s.
Fever has outsold every Madonna album released in the 2000s.
Aphrodite has outsold every Madonna album released in the 2010s.

I think the question should be:

Will Madonna get a top 3 hit single and platinum album in the UK this decade?

Always a good laugh seeing Kylie and Madonna fans bashing each other over sales and records, and getting upset in threads like this where the op has just had a misunderstanding success of one of the Queens

I'd like to think it's possible. But the way the charts are compiled now, i doubt it. Unless someone like Ed Sheeran has her guesting ..

Apologies for bumping the thread, but I want to add something.

Looking at Wikipedia, Kylie hasn't done too badly since Can't Get You Out of My Head. Love at First Sight, In Your Eyes, Slow, I Believe in You, In My Arms and All the Lovers were top 10 hits in nearly every country they charted in (and not just European countries). Red Blooded Woman, Wow and 2 Hearts were top 20 hits in nearly every country they charted in. Even Chocolate and Into the Blue did ok in most European countries.

At the end of the day, Celine Dion hasn't had a major worldwide smash hit for 13 years, Mariah Carey for ten, Madonna for seven, Janet Jackson for 14 and Cher for 17. It seems a bit petty to single Kylie out. All the Lovers was bigger than anything they've released in the last six years or so.

It's not petty to single Kylie out purely for the fact that the way the charts have changed in the last five years means that an 'old' woman will never have a 'hit' in the UK again.

Why does it make it any less petty to single out Kylie, when lots of other acts are in the same boat?

Number 1 hits only capture a moment, the better question would be does Kylie still make good pop music I'd say yes.

ADORE kylie AND Madonna but the streaming inclusion on the charts has now officially ended their singles charts careers. Their only hope is featuring on tracks by younger artists.
