I have a number of AVI files (which play in DIV-x) on disc that I am unable to play in my DVD recorder because it doesn't support DIV-x.

How can I convert these, and if so what to, so I can play these on a DVD player?

Thanks
Mark

Freemake video convertor can convert and burn those into DVD's using a PC for playing on a standalone player. Make sure you select Custom install and untick the box for the toolbar.

But I would honestly think about investing in something like an android box or roku so you can play them back without having to flaff around converting them.

A decent Blu-ray player should be able to play them, along with most other file types, apart from .flv.

Have just converted an AVI file into a WMV. But still won't play on my DVD player (Panasonic DMR-EZ49V DVD/Video player) .

The error message on the player I get is 'UNSUPPORT' both times.

I would have thought it would have played as a WMV, don't know what to think now!

The only way you will be able to play these files is to convert them to DVD Video. From reading the manual online this player cannot play any data disks containing video files (which is not the same thing as a DVD Video disk ) as far as I can see.

The manual only mentions being able to play data disks containing mp3 audio files or JPEG still images. I cannot see any reference to playing data disks containing video files.

So it looks like it will make no difference at all what format you convert the files into. If they stay as data files you will just get UNSUPPORT every time.

In freemake, select DVD as your output format. It will then burn a video DVD compatible with standalone players.

Alternative is a cheap media player to already suggested Android devices.

eg

You can take this pocket size device and your files pretty well anywhere there's a TV with a hdmi socket to watch your files.

If you need scart there are models with additional analogue video outputs.

Thanks for that. Its worked really well but I have one final question. I have have just converted four files and transferred them to DVD. The problem it has merged them all on the disc as one track, rather than four separate ones.
I can't see anything on Freemake to split the tracks. Can it be done?

Of course, you need a DVD authoring package. Try DVDFlick.

You are welcome. Don't expect the free software to be as fast or have the capability to create multi title DVD-VIDEO presentations as paid for DVD Authoring software. But for free the basic access to your individual titles (DVD-Video speak for unrelated content on the same disk accessed by a simple menu) afaik is the best free software - )

There's also DeVeDe, a simple authoring program, although it doesn't burn.

You can create a menu.

When you add the AVI files there is an option at the top right to merge the files or not. You can also add a basic menu if you want.
