She's back. Oh good. Brilliant. Hoorah.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...name=corporate

Cruel, heartless and shocking? Having being killed by Missy (Michelle Gomez) in the show’s series eight finale ‘Death in Heaven’, the Doctor’s biggest fan and UNIT scientist Osgood, played by Ingrid Oliver, has been brought back by Steven Moffat for Doctor Who series nine.
Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, said:

“Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series. We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning - but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”

The last time we saw Osgood as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart’s assistant was with the Twelfth Doctor during an invasion of Earth by an army of Cybermen led by a new, female incarnation of the Master. This time she’s back in action and comes face-to-face with the shape-shifting extra-terrestrial Zygons, as they also return for the new series. They last appeared in ‘The Day of the Doctor’ for the show’s 50th anniversary episode.

Speaking on set, Ingrid Oliver commented on her reappearance:

“As every actor who’s worked on Doctor Who will tell you, there’s always the secret hope you'll get the call asking you to come back. To actually receive that call is both unexpected and brilliant. The word ‘honour’ gets banded about a lot, but it really is, it’s an honour. Especially because I was so sure Osgood was a goner after the last series!”

The two-part episode is currently being filmed in Cardiff and is written by Peter Harness (Doctor Who - Kill the Moon, Wallander, Jonathan Strange And Mr Norrell), produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Daniel Nettheim (Line of Duty, Glue).

Also joining Peter Capaldi (The Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) and confirmed for guest roles in the double episode is Jemma Redgrave, Jaye Griffiths, Cleopatra Dickens, Sasha Dickens, Abhishek Singh, Todd Kramer, Jill Winternitz, Nicholas Asbury, Jack Parker and Aidan Cook.

Doctor Who series nine will be back on BBC One in Autumn 2015 and further guest cast will be released over the coming months. Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One.

Zygon or human?

Can't wait to find out!

Maybe we should wait to see what's done with the character before deciding if it's a bad thing? I'm not saying reviving dead characters is wise but we really don't know what's going to happen yet though to write it off, story wise.

Well, I guess there were some calls for the Zygon business to be returned to following their pretty irrelevant DoTD side-story - so here we are. Harness' return was to be expected. Hopefully Osgood isn't an egg

I have to ask, though.... who the hell is Cleopatra Dickens?

( That's a nice Note to Editors, there )

If you look closely in the mirror - looks like she may be wearing Seven's jumper.

Zygons are interesting.

Osgood though, meh. She's hardly an iconic character worth resurrecting. (Except for perhaps in Moffat's wet dreams).

Agree 100%.

IMO the headline should be Harness directing a 2 parter

Surely it's just the Zygon version that'll be coming back?

What if she and Missy weren't killed at all and that ray gun was just some sort of transmat beam? Moffat does lie.

Kind of agree, she's nice enough but I've always found the fan love on here for her a bit strange.

Zygons used to need the original to keep the clone body alive. So if Osgood's back, then it must mean it's the original (or that the original human Osgood didn't die), no?

Couldn't care less about Osgood but I'll be surprised if they don't at least play with the idea of whether she's the original Osgood back from the dead or the Zygon duplicate and I think that has a lot of potential.

I'd like to see her turn out to be the Zygon duplicate but I wouldn't mind if they retain a air of mystery over which Osgood she is. Mystery is how Doctor Who started after all.

Glad the Zygons are back. Suspected they would; can't be long before the Ice Warriors make a 2nd return appearance now too.

It would be great if it was, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Perhaps more to the point will we find out is Osgood is related to Sgt Osgood from The Daemons?

Thanks for the huge spoiler in the title!

Not.

How is it a spoiler? We don't know which Osgood it is - Zygon or normal.

Seriously, leave Lewis alone. He has enough on his plate when he's debating with me on here!

I don't think it can really be a spoiler when Lewis has merely informed us of a news item from the BBC itself.

So much delicious salt in the DS comments section.

Since it's been released by the BBC as a Press Reelease and is on various news sites (with similar headlines, I should add), it was also bound to end up here too. So, sorry but...!

Indeed. It gets ridiculous when people cry "Spoliers!" over stuff released officially by the BBC. I remember when Davros was on the Radio Times cover, yet people were still calling his blatant return a "spoiler".

For some folk, it seems like everything's a ruddy spoiler these days, regardless of whether or not it's released by the BBC. Have people not realised that the BBC has released news every single year since 2005? Why only nowadays is it all apparently "spoilers"? (Probably cos Moffat's drilled into people that EVERYTHING IS A SPOILER SHUSH.) And, to be fair to the team, they've only released stuff that they know for a fact will get out there (so, for example, that shot of the Zygon for the 50th cos it was outdoor filming; same with the recent dusty robot things for next series).

I'd much rather have the programme itself surprise me. That's all. Always have. Nothing to do with River Song's catch phrase or Steven Moffat's opinion (which, strangely, mirrors my own).

Spoilers are like opening presents before the day. When the day comes, there's nothing left to surprise.

If it was possible I'd much rather know only the date of its return and.

Nothing else.

It matters not if it was an official press release. There are news sites and a thread in this very forum for those who must know simply everything in advance. Use the spoiler thread please. It's a simple courtesy.

I saw that other "Spoiler/News" thread more as a thread for people to just post tidbits, and felt people might want to talk about Zygons, Osgood and Harness more - so, instead of derailing the other thread, felt it appropriate to make this its own discussion topic.

As we've said it's not a spoiler (by the BBC's standards anyway). You're in a DW forum, and so anything they officially release you're at risk of seeing, unfortunately! Sorry.
