EastEnders bosses have confirmed a surprise new storyline for the Carter family which will be kicking off in the summer.

Linda and Mick's marriage is set to disintegrate over the next coming months, after the feud with Dean and Shirley starts to tear them apart from each other.

Eventually, after Mick has another violent outburst, Linda decides enough is enough and separates from her long-term partner. A custody battle takes place which will see Linda gaining sole custody of her new baby, and Mick is kicked out of the Vic and moves into a flat outside of Walford.

Managing the Vic by herself proves to be too much for poor Linda, who then decides to put up an advertisement for a housekeeper, to look after her newborn baby while she is working.

Mick sees this as the perfect opportunity to secretly remain in his child's life, so disguises himself as an elderly lady, Mrs. Believewater, and is hired by Linda as the new nanny, who is completely oblivious to the fact that this old lady is in fact Mick himself.

EastEnders producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has commented on this new storyline, stating "This will be an slow-burning storyline, based on the film 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' Linda and the rest of the Carters will have no clue who Mrs. Believewater's true identity is. Considering how much people adore the Carter family, and seeing as I'm such a pro at block storytelling, we plan to drag this out until EastEnders' 40th Anniversary. Plus, who doesn't want to see Danny Dyer in drag?!"

Wouldn't surprise me if Dtc did this. Far too much up Dd's arse and he is in his own bubble. Carters are loosing popularity and he is just oblivious.

Can't wait for the scene where Mick dunks his face in a trifle at Aunt Babe's flat because he loses his mask!

This doesn't sound at all plausible. Not nearly enough Carters in it.

I thought it was a piss take at first until I saw it in Soaplife this morning. The more and more I think about it the more it grows on me. It'll be the first time a soap has done a 10 year storyline and I'm looking foreword to it!

I don't follow EE that closely and don't know that much about DTC, but is "seeing as I'm such a pro at block storytelling" really a plausible quote from a professional TV producer? Joke story surely.

I hope not because not even crappy Hollyoaks would do this.
