Continuation of: Brendan Brady (Emmett J. Scanlan) Fan Thread! (Part 195)

Constantine's been cancelled by NBC.

They're trying to find someone else to pick it up but
Constantine was dead before it aired even its first ep,NBC trying to run away from the character sexuality its what killed the show.this was a bisexual superhero played by handsome Irishman how do you mess that shit up,tumblr would have eaten that sh-t up,t hey would have had so much good press going in, but they had to go the no homo route until the show was suffering and then they started backtracking with.am glad Emmett was lost the lead the last thing i want is for Emmett first lead role to fail.even though i can't help but think it was have succeeded with Emmett, i just feel like Emmett as a way of sucking people in and he already had a social media presences and fandom which would have given the show publicity.but we will never know

I think the choice to change the character's sexuality definitely alienated some of the tumblr crowd. But look at In The Flesh - that was almost a perfect show for tumblr, but it still got cancelled. I think there have been such an influx of superhero shows lately that it has to be really strong to compete, and networks can be brutal sometimes.

There's still hope that someone else will take it over. It's getting loads of support.

I wonder if it would have stood out from the other shows a bit more if it had been set in England. Apparently most of the comic book stories were set here. Constantine was born in Liverpool but spent time in Northampton and Newcastle and lived in London. He did go to America though, and I suppose it made sense to set it there so that it was more a part of that world of shows.

Meanwhile, Embo can get on with getting another job.

It's hard to tell - I know some Americans really love our culture, but then maybe some wouldn't have connected to it as much. And the cast would have had to do convincing accents Or cast different actors for the roles.

They used a number of British/Irish actors as it was. But yes you're probably right.

Also it's worth saying that Embo being in it, whether it continues or not, has done him nothing but good. If it's not picked up it won't be a reflection on him in any way. Plus he's in the very nice position of being in a big hit show for the same network.

It's a big achievement getting a US show. The only way it would have done him any harm is if it had been a complete embarrassment, but it wasn't. I don't think he'd choose to be part of a show like that anyway.

Unfortunately lots of brilliant actors these days are in shows which are cancelled But the exposure is only a good thing.

And it's not just the exposure, it's the quality of the actor's work. No casting director would hold even a terrible show against an actor if the actor did a good job with what they were given. There might be a consideration if someone was inextricably linked with something that tanked, in not wanting them to bring a taint of bad publicity to a new show, but I'm sure that's very rare. Shows don't take off for all sorts of reasons but it's rarely anything to do with the cast, and everyone knows that by now.

Matt Ryan can come out of this with honour and an enhanced reputation, and he's the lead.

I think it's a shame really. Like Ready said it was probably down to the influx of superhero shows lately, not to mention all the fuss on the big screen as well. It doesn't reflect Emmett though, as Sarah says. It doesn't even reflect the main actor either really, they both did a great job it just didn't capture the audience's attention enough I suppose. Saying that shows get cancelled even if they do so.

Exactly I didn't even know who Matt was before, so I'm sure this will only help his career too.

New thread!

In the Flesh, Atlantis, and now Constantine.

Emmett has been amazing in all three though, and I'm looking forward to his next role!

Speaking of Atlantis, the actors have said that they had no idea that the show was going to be cancelled, so the series finale leaves everything up in the air, but I'm still really surprised that they killed off Medusa so early! The Medusa and Hercules romance was one of the major storylines, so I was surprised when she sacrificed herself. They must have been planning on doing something really different for series 3.

I hate it when shows can't tie all the loose ends together because they don't know if they'll be renewed

Mojo!

Excellent choice for the new gif.

the problem with in the flesh was accessibility, i live in the us and yet i had to watch it online because i don't get that channel, a lot of people on tumblr watch it but they were doing so through streaming which doesn't help rating.nbc is regular channel everyone with a cable gets it you dont need any special packeges so more people have access to channels like abc, nbc, cbs thats why their successful;l show have huge ratings couse everyone have this channels.

I'm frustrated that we'll never know how Jason started out in the 21st century and found himself in ancient Atlantis, and how Pasiphae was his mother if he's from the present day. That whole idea is never referenced though so maybe even if they'd known they were ending, they might not have addressed it anyway.

Happy new thread everyone.

Nice beardy gif.

I think they transferred the last page of the previous thread to this one. I didn't notice it was a new thread either.

I know Looking was cancelled recently, and The Mindy Project. The latter I've watched and is really enjoyable, and the former I haven't seen but is apparently brilliant and loved by fans. Sometimes shows just go before their time.

I must admit that I only really concentrated on Emmett's bits (ooh er) - it's probably good that I didn't get invested in hindsight.

Long live the beard

I remember when you used to beg for a new thread

They never explained that?! I have to confess... I only managed one episode. I will just skim until I get to Emmett's bits for the other two but I really wasn't feeling it.

We used to say 'rimming' because that one time we got a new thread when someone had said it. I don't think it ever worked again, but we kept trying.

Good toimes.
