I am debating with myself as to why i can't for two minutes give the show a break. Here i am watching old episodes and loving it and yet we're not talking different worlds or even format and it's not like i watched when i was 16 and now i'm older, i'm still as old as i was when i started the stendan storyline. So why can't i stand to watch HO for more than 2 minutes before breaking into hives?

This list of ex Hollyoaks actors was an interesting read, but there's no mention of Emmett Scanlan or Bronagh Waugh though. They've both done pretty well, since quitting Hollyoaks.

I feel your pain! I consider watching an episode every now and then, but it's gotten easier for me to stay away after Charlie Wernham quit. Also, reading most of Ste's storyline descriptions usually makes me shudder.

I was surprised about that too! They've both done brilliantly.

I've been watching Ste/Amy/Terry/Pauline scenes. Really hard to watch. I can't imagine current Hollyoaks doing anything that feels so immediate and real, because the show and the characters no longer look real. The characters look as if they're from a reality show these days - the kind of TOWIE/Geordie Shore reality show that Lime makes - and it's impossible to imagine them depicting a teenage parenthood story with anything like the realism of Amy and Ste's lifestyle. You can't do it in the context of a show that hires Linda Grey because Joan Collins turned them down, and where everyone (from school children to drug addicts) inexplicably has gym bodies, permanent tans and perfect teeth.

In a way it's unfair to compare now with then because the show's aspirations are completely different. It's just interesting to see how much it's changed.
