In the first series people shipped Pythagoras and Jason, which was encouraged by the show's Twitter I think because they were hoping for the same kind of enthusiasm as the Merlin/Arthur fandom. I think Pythagoras was played as if he was in love with Jason in S1, but it was never going to go anywhere.

I've just had a look in the Atlantis tag on Tumblr and it's very sweet and sad tonight, but people are grateful that the Pythagoras/Icarus thing turned out to have been a buildup to something real rather than just more baiting. It showed every sign of going forward to the third series if they'd had one.

It's risky to do that with no follow through. People are really sick of it after shows like Teen Wolf and Supernatural have played with their fans like that. I think that's one thing that so many people on tumblr loved about ITF, that it didn't just tease. I wish I'd watched Merlin all those years ago. People love it so much. From what I've gathered Merlin and Arthur were never actually a canon thing (and I think Arthur had a female love interest?) but clearly within fandom it was massively popular.

It's a real shame that Atlantis has been axed just when it's finding its feet

I wonder how different it would have been if the panel hadn't had a say. In a way I wish they hadn't, because without the multi voting we might have had a more accurate view of what the public chose. Instead a lot of fans are hating against the panel now.

I do think they had to change the system after last year's fiasco. I also think it must be difficult to completely eliminate multi voting.

S2 was so much better than S1, so it's disappointing that there won't be a S3.

On the bright side, that means that they won't have a chance to kill off Icarus, so Pythacarus can live happily ever after! Also, Jason won't be cheating on his wife who he is supposedly in love with. The Jason/Medea storyline has made me really dislike Jason because Ariadne deserves better than that. It's a shame that Delmos died because Ariadne and Delmos would have made a nice couple.
