Surely that's his decision? He is on a Legends Tour! He is doing some in Europe late November, so will he be entering the UK Championship?
It is his decision and its a bloody awful one. He doesn't care about the fans who want to see the defending champion, he does what is best for Ronnie.

It's a common fact that its all about Ronnie! He's enjoying playing in these events and is playing to his fans, who are paying good money to see him!

TV and sponsors are naturally annoyed he's not playing in the Champion of Champions, especially itv4!

Breaks of 56, 74, 62, 138 & 78 for John Higgins as he whitewashes Murphy to make the quarter-finals. Poor old Shaun didn't so much as pot a ball after the mid-session interval!

Saw the first few frames before I went to work. I had a feeling Higgins would win, think I did on my predictor too. Didn't expect a whitewash though!

No great surprise given his recent withdrawal from the CofC. He'll be pulling out the Masters next. 😴

He must know I've bought tickets and I'd have a go at him

Perhaps this is Ronnie's gentle way of saying 'I'm retiring'

Or he's going to enter the World Championship only.

I can't see him playing in the Masters in January, as he will be doing exhibitions around that time.

Then again, he's won these 3 elite tournaments 5 times eh!

Ronnie explains on his eurosport blog why he's not competing - it's on doctors advice

Is that Dr Trump or Dr Robertson? 😛

How safe is Ronnie in the top 16 ? I mean, and I know it is hypothetical, he wouldn't enter the Worlds if he had to qualify

As for the Dr's advice.....i haven't read it but does it say not to play in the legends events too ?

This is probably the best provisional list to look at, he's 9th and falling obviously - but still about 80 grand to the good top 16 wise.

Don't worry though Ronnie fans - he will be pundit-ing for Eurosport on the UK - some consolation that must be 😛

Personally I don't think he's got the stomach for the fight any more - that heavy defeat by Robbo in last years Masters then the loss to Bing in the Worlds.... which he said in his Eurosport show 'retired him'....far easier to pick up some dough doing media work and exhibitions rather than risk getting beat in competition....

Mini-fright as Un-Nooh closed to 5-8, but Dave wins frame fourteen and the match. To quote Jarvis Cocker "it's taken me twenty years to become an overnight sensation".

Dave's also up to easily a career high of at least 21 in the rankings.

Whether this latest fashion of lowly ranked players making finals means there's loads of strength in depth, or a dearth of absolutely A1 talent at the very top....is open to debate.

Selby recovers from 1-5 to trail 3-5 at the interval. Hopefully be a close exciting conclusion this lunchtime

Looking forward to watching it live later on. Have only been able to watch highlights all week due to work except for 30 mins in the morning.

Unfortunately, I'll only be able to watch it for an hour as Liverpool kick off at 12:45! Typical!

Oh well it finished a comfortable 9-4 win for Higgins in the end.

Think if he wins tomorrow he goes level 2nd with Steve on 28 rankers?

Century by Higgins to end the session but Dave staying with him well to trail only 4-5.

Well done to John Higgins. Proving once again he's still capable of producing his best and also equalling Davis's record. Surely only a matter of time before he surpasses it.

Great week for Dave Gilbert.
That missed red at 54-0 which would have got it back to 6-7 finished him but Higgins was as you'd expect always the stronger player.

This venue in Sofia doesn't half remind me of the old
Lambwath snooker hall in Hull. Minus the beer stains all over the table
