It's always disappointing when this happens and the winner doesn't appear as jubilant as we imagine they should be, but then maybe there is also a huge sense of anti-climax? Striving for it, rather than getting it.

The sport could do with some more flamboyant and charismatic players who can get results though.

Congrats Mark Selby. Nice winner's speech at the end - especially respectful towards Ding. Mark Selby is a great champion.

I am sure Ding will win this one day - he's been a pleasure to watch this last fortnight.

My highlight of the two weeks was the great run and re-emergence of Alan McManus. Hopefully he'll continue next season.

Loved the little intermission video with Steve Davis. Hopefully a longer version will be made in due course.

Well, that's it all over for another year now ...

Well done Selby, and yes, he did look subdued on winning, probably exhausted!

Having your mum leave you when you are 9, and losing your dad who was your 'inspiration', to cancer when you are 16, is always going to be an emotional cross to bear throughout the rest of your life.. Credit to him for making such a success of his talent and life despite this.

Some people aren't prepared to cut anyone any slack.

By the same token, some people will trot out any excuse to defend someone, however far fetched. Save the sob stories for the x factor.

Sky do football, cricket, golf etc very well but they've never mastered snooker, hence they dropped it”

John Virgo isnt on Sky

As for ads, meh. There is a natural gap inbetween frames anyway.

So you would rather the Worlds on Sky than BBC ? Andy Goldstein over Hazel ? I would sooner chew my own arm off

It isn't a sob story, it is fact. I don't know how you can have so much hate in your heart, beyond me.

That wasnt the point I was arguing, just saying ad breaks are hardly intrusive into a sport that has natural breaks

Of course not. Eurosport do a good enough job, the reason I watch them is to avoid John Virgo

Of course if it was on Sky, then Eurosport probably wouldn't be able to show it.

About time the BBC pensioned off Dennis now. JV can stay for a short time. Parrot and Davis are excellent. Kenny is good value and Hendry is really coming on. Ebbo proved to be a surprise hit. They can use Tel and Willie sparingly. Hazel is a great host so they have plenty of good people already.

Indeed an ad break is no different to Hazel Irvine nattering to John Parrott and Steve Davis while the table is being re-racked between frames.

I like that insight though.

I will admit for the Final I did switch back to the BBC inbetween frames and for the intervals, many times the last 17 days though they werent showing the live stuff. Even on Saturday afternoon when they were showing the 76 minute mega-frame the BBC seemed to be 10 minutes or so behind live.

The Steve Davis piece was superb

That was a great piece. Steve was struggling at 1 point to keep his composure

Aye, Hearn was almost in tears last night. Love him or hate him, you can tell how much Davis means to him.

No its not a "fact" that his mum leaving him when he was a kid or his dad dying when he was a teenager being the reason he looked so miserable last night, which was my point. Your a strange man.

You do have a slight point, it happened years ago. Personally I just think he was utterly knackered.

The facts were that his mum left him and his dad died. I never said it was why he was down last night did I ? He missed the two events prior to Sheffield for personal reasons so there is obviously more to it.

A sky sporting commentator is not necessarily a terrible commentator no matter what the sport is though.

Again i never said he was. What is it with DS and people answering things you don't say ? But Goldstein is not in the same league as Hazel when it comes to sports presenting. Not even close

David Livingstone gives Hazel Irvine a run for her money in the golf presenter stakes though. Even against Steve Rider and Harry Carpenter from the past.

Coventry shirt goes to a lot of tournaments and seems to be there most of the week when he does, he may even have vip tickets looking at the seats he always gets.

Anyway, much as I don't particularly like Mark Selby's style of play it has to be said that he is probably the best all round player at the moment and deserved to win as he seemed to be able to win frames just as Ding seemed to be catching up.

Hopefully Ding will be a future champion, it looks as if the pressure got to him on a couple of occasions (the start of the match and the start of the final session). I seem to remember this happening before playing Ronnie in a final (possibly the UK).

Would have been nice to see Mark looking happy about winning though!

Agree with all of that apart from the JV comment. I think he ought to be put out to grass with Dennis now.

Eurosports coverage was far more entertaining.
