Touch of the old shredsville this afternoon as Murphy and Williams defeat Dale and Walden in deciders.

Terrible defeat for Ricky as it confirms he won't be at the Masters in January now.

Also good to see several young players through to the last 16, Luca Brecel, Zhou Yuelong, Oliver Lines, Liam Highfield

Aren't the outer two tables being televised?

No. From tomorrow we go down to just the two main tables

Oh dear - rather unfortunate way to lose the game!

To be fair that wasn't the shot that lost him the match really, he still needed a snooker and Ryan had had no end of chances to win before that. Still, to have a kick like that must have put the tin lid on his night.

Six frames in, and Ronnie's pot success rate is 98%. I don't think I've ever seen such a high rate in 20-odd years of watching snooker.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has basically said most of the players are rubbish.

"There are a lot of players I watch out there and they can't play," he said.

"That's no disrespect, they just can't play. They are never going to be good enough.

No-one starts at the top of the rankings. He rose up the ranks very quickly due to his mega-talent, but if there were a top 16 or top 32 only you'd still need a mechanism to allow the few unknown new players to have a chance to prove their worth. Perhaps you could reduce snooker to a top 32 only and have a lower ranked division of 18 players all trying to break into the top 32. That would mean a total of 50 pro players, not 128.

I think the basic point about lower ranked players not good enough is true, although it's a harsh truth, and one that very few people within the game would admit to in interviews.

I love how Joe Johnson always gives the game away that Eurosport aren't there. "Well we can't see if he has a red on yet."

Decent quarters line up. Higgins v Selby could be a classic. Best two players in the world right now

You don't want a closed shop of sorts, there should be a way so that up and comping players can get to play the best players.
People like Rocket with his talent don't come around all that often, most other players, gradually rise up the rankings.
So whilst it might not be fun for him to play the lower ranked players, for them, it is a huge learning experience.

What an afternoon of snooker this should be. Definite tv and laptop job, don't want to miss either.

You are right about the Higgins/Selby game - gone to a decider.

What a tense frame that was, the pressure was palpable. Selby scrapes over the line on the brown. Nailbiter!

Unfortunately that clip doesn't show the preceding couple of minutes, which were brilliant. It consisted of Ken talking about Ronnie being an amazing sportsman, best player ever, etc; and all the while Ronnie was slumped in his chair with his legs splayed open as he energetically tucked his shirt in. I think he assumed that the camera was close up on Docherty (which it quickly was, until Ronnie finished adjusting himself).

Marco Fu came from 5-2 down against Jamie Jones to win 6-5. Can't see him beating Ronnie tomorrow night though.

Very tough to call the other semi final though. Shaun Murphy v Mark Selby, could be a cracker.

Great fightback by Fu.

The Selby/Higgins match was a very tense affair. The last frame went on for ages and was very tight. Prolonged by Higgins needing a piss mid frame - or was it mid shot? That little sequence of shots around a cluster of reds and the black was fascinating to watch. Great match from two great players.

Selby is the only one who can stop O'Scummivan now.

I hope he does.

I get so tired of all the endless bullshit no matter how uniquely talented the bloke is.

I hope that Murphy beats Selby. Selby is the most boring played I have ever watched and I have watched snooker since the early 80's.

He really is, no doubt he is brilliant though and one of a few who can beat Ronnie if he's just only 5% off his game.

I hope Murphy beats him which will make a much better and bearable final.

Said it before and I will say it again. I do not understand this dislike of Mark Selby. He is an outstanding player, a real grafter and a very tough opponent. He is a great ambassador for the game and a worthy world champion.

Tsk those spectators putting off the players. It's not like the BBC commentary team ever do that.

And no sooner do I write this.. they're cracking jokes about Strictly whilst Mark is building his break.

Selby vs Murphy:

Getting scrappy. More misses than the England football team taking penalties!
