Ronnie discussing it here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/35590088 I think as I said earlier.. he's just a player who has been playing for so long now that he has to do little things just to make the game fun and enjoyable for him. And that was one of them. The public are still getting to witness a genius at the game and the best player of all time. |

Ronnie O'Sullivan doesn't give a toss about the fans. He's an arrogant, self centred sod. He should have done it for the crowd. This is why I am gob smacked that people are so keen to kiss his arse on here. He doesn't care one jot about his supporters

In this day and age of spoilt sportsmen and women nobody can defend what he did - it is insulting to the powers that be and sponsors, the tournament itself and the paying public ... |

I doubt Ronnie was particularly thinking about publicity when he did it but Hearn certainly has after his initial indignation yesterday. This whole saga has got 100% more publicity for the sport than him getting a 147 in a minor tournament would have!
As a snooker fan it was a selfish thing for him to do basically robbing the paying punter of a special moment (assuming he did it of course!) but as Hearn knows Ronnie is box office, without him snooker is going to struggle to get itself headlines. |

O'Sullivan may be the most talented player that the game has seen but he was, is and always will be a knob of the highest order.
I can't stand him. Sadly he is big box office so TPTB will let him get away with his childish, disrespectful and petulant antics forever. |

I suppose the problem with the 147, versus the 9 dart finish is that a nine darter can win a match - a 147 merely a frame - the frame being won one past the 74 point mark in most cases. Quote:
Eh? A nine darter in dart merely wins one leg, that doesnt win a match either
![]() ![]() If you're on a 147 and miss the black then you still win the frame/match. |

I remember when getting a Maximum break would be worth over Hundred grand Now it is peanuts Ronnie does not need the money and he has had so many Maximums than i have had hot dinners Barry Hearn should put his hand in his pocket and put the prize money up for a Maximum

Ronnie may not need the money, but that doesn't mean he should not perform for the fans that were in that arena. He could have potted the black instead of the pink and given the money to charity. First and foremost he's a professional snooker player. He would do well to remember that sometimes.
The bloke is obnoxious. |

Typically disappointing coverage from BBC Wales. The coverage on the red button is cut off at 8pm even though the match was nearly over and there's only one evening match being transmitted to Eurosport. Ronnie won 4-0 against Jimmy Robertson so it was all over by 8.10. I'm sure there were two evening matches on the TV table last year.

Absolutely abysmal - got a week off and was looking forward to settling down to watch some serious snooker. The Murphy v Brecel match this afternoon was excellent, apart from that it's been pretty much a succession of walkovers followed by endless repeats of O'Sullivan on Eurosport. They are showing all Ronnie's maches on the TV table but they've all been embarrassing walkovers, and obviously they've got to show Mark Williams everyday because he's Welsh y'know. Selby has been seen once and Robertson hasn't been on at all. Crap. |

Apparently the Trump - McManus match is, at this moment, being played on the TV table, only the cameras have been switched off, so there is nothing for Eurosport to show!
Budget cuts or poor organisation/laziness? Whichever way it's a real let down. It's bad enough that the matches have been cut to best of 7's which makes the early rounds feel like a PTC only with less TV coverage. Perhaps if a Welsh player had been involved they'd have kept the cameras rolling further into the evening. |

I wouldn't say it's totally to do with cuts! One question? Why aren't BBC England interested in covering the Welsh Open!
Next season we have the Scottish and British Open! Should be interesting to see whether UK BBC cover it. Still, Eurosport will be covering these events anyway. Eurosport has covered Snooker pretty well recently! I ask you Darren Lethem... Do you actually play? |

As for the coverage, its all well and good saying "it finished at 8.10" but TV execs don't have crystal balls. If Robertson had won that frame, they would have gone off at 3-1 and you would be equally pee'd off wouldn't you ? It is partly to do with cuts I think ( blame the Tories for that ) but also the fact that the BBC has to please everyone and there are more non snooker fans than snooker fans. As simple as that, they have other programmes to show. |

I used to be a member of Lambwath Snooker Club and then Rileys ( I think I still have a card somewhere ) but I was not particularly good. Much better at pool.

Look, I don't mind them taking it off the main BBC 2 Wales channel and I understand there are other audiences to be catered for, but there's no excuse for ending the online streaming/red button at 8pm when the other BBC tournaments manage to continue into the evening as 'streaming only' without problems.
and the word SPORT in Eurosport is the answer. That is a sports channel. Neither BBC2 or the Red Button are |

The red button streaming was only ever until 8pm due to coverage of other things. Plus you cannot compare this to other tournaments because it is on BBC 2 Wales only, not national. A few years ago you wouldn't have seen any of it.
Besides, last year they did actually manage to provide Eurosport with live coverage of both evening matches on successive days. |

Right so because it's BBC Wales we can excuse their amateur attempts to provide coverage. That's ok then. There was nothing else live on the red button stream at 8pm, so I'm not sure what you mean about 'coverage of other things', neither does it explain the lack of internet streaming when Eurosport have pictures.
Besides, last year they did actually manage to provide Eurosport with live coverage of both evening matches on successive days. The BBC have had to make cuts, get used to it. Not the BBC's fault but down to the government. I strongly recommend you get Eurosport and you wouldn't have this problem. Its a great channel |

I listen to 6 Music and all week they have been advertising that they are showing their 6 Music Fest on the Red Button from 8pm. So yes they did have something planned on there. Again, not just for you but for everyone.

I have Eurosport International which is slightly different to the British version, but on the whole it is very good I agree.
