Excellent start for Robbo, 3-1 ahead at the interval. Might end up one sided the other way

Not sure what the rules on on the situation which just cropped up, Ronnie trying to hit the brown off one cushion to play safe missed it twice then was about to play for it again when Robertson pointed out that he could hit the black full ball so would have lost the frame had he missed brown again.

Even the ref didn't appear to have noticed it! If Neil had kept quiet (I know snooker is an honest game so he wouldn't ) and Ronnie had attempted it again and missed would he have lost because the ref didn't let him know?

Yeah good question. I suspect the ref would have had to give him another try with a warning had Neil kept quiet. I'm sure the crowd would have made enough noise to alert the ref to his mistake.

Come on Ronnie. I want this to be a decent final.

Poor refereeing to be honest. If Robbo hadn't mentioned it and Ronnie had missed the brown a third time he wouldn't have lost the frame.

Even the rules of the game aren't 100% clear. On reds, absolutely makes sense (as per Dechawat's infamous Crucible three misses). On colours though, the offending player can nominate a different ball each time, but if nominating the same ball (which was not straight on) maybe that was why it was the situation it was.

Unless the rules deem any colour hittable to be a ball "on" and as the player could have chosen to nominate a colour in a clear line, it's deemed as such that way?

For a second I thought it was going to be 5-5 there, but the reds still aren't in the best position to be cleared from here...

Edit: it is 5-5. Match very much on.

Logically I would have thought you can only have 3 attempts at any of the snookered colours, otherwise you could alternate between, say, brown and green, and have 6 attempts!

Can't help but feel Robbo's throwing this final away. All of these frames Ronnie's winning are not by engineering openings from great safety, but unforced errors by the Aussie.

Agreed. The question is how much damage is going to be done whilst he's playing this way. I actually think he can still win this but he needs a frame and quick.

Ronnie sort of looked over there with a "What's happened mate?" look on his face. Not sure he can believe how this has gone.

Definitely been ronnie's best tournament for many years. When he's fully focused this is what he can do. When he plays like this he's pretty much unstoppable.

He's looked very relaxed here. Is it because this isn't a main TV tournament? Less pressure perhaps? Either way I agree it's been a great tournament. A bit shaky today but then so was his opponent.

That is why he is the Rocket - blows the best away at times when on form.

Well done Ronnie. Great player, and a genius on the snooker table. Look forward to seeing him again soon; tournaments just aren't the same without him.

Ronnie certainly defying old Father Time at the moment. In vintage form this week. Maybe because he's got less snooker miles on the clock these days it's keeping him fresher, who knows?!

Knowing Ronnie he could wake up tomorrow morning and chuck it again.

When he has the focus and mindset that he's had this week then he is unbeatable, no one really comes close but a hell of a lot can happen inside Ronnie's head in the two months before the World's start.

They were praising the crowd earlier but I think they have been a tad disappointing this week. No applause when at 'snookers needed stage' quite a lot of the time plus some great shots have gone unnoticed
Did the audience have the benefit of the earpieces this year?

I do sometimes think that the audience listening to Willie Thorne and Co react more to their commentary, than to the snooker they are witnessing with their eyes.

There didn't seem to be any reaction from the crowd when Terry, Willie or Dom said soemething that was amusing.

Not sure but you shouldn't need an earpiece to tell you when a shot is good or to see a player needs a snooker, but as you point out...it seems you do.

Smaller arena so probably not. I think only the big ones get the headphones and the jokes from the commentary box.
