Looking at the latest projected rankings list, it's getting pretty tight for that top 16 cut off for the World Championship:
http://www.prosnookerblog.com/rankin...ed-seedings-2/ In fact only £151 separates 16th from 17th (Wenbo and Maguire) and notably also, Ding Junhui down in 19th. I suspect every match in the World Grand Prix, Players Championship Finals and China Open really is going to matter hugely. Even a good run in the two tournaments he's eligible for for Matt Selt could see him snatch a top 16 slot. Very much all to play for. And I'd second that ITV4's coverage is pretty good these days - we get Uncle Clive, Neal Foulds and Alan McManus, so can't argue with that for a decent commentary team all round. BBC - take note. Now if only ITV4 could get rid of that MC that they have and try to get Rob Walker involved... |

I cannot understand how Ricky Walden is still in the top 10 when he has been shockingly bad this season.

Imagine missing out on a spot at the crucible by £150 (or less) and having to win three, best of 19 Matches a week before to qualify!
With 100k on offer at both of the next two events, pretty much anyone could get into the top 16 so it's still all to play for everyone. Going to be really exciting! |

Don't think that Rob Walker is that good either; best MC that snooker ever had was Allan Hughes; he was a master of his craft, much as John Macdonald is. Perhaps JM could be persuaded to do a stint for snooker on ITV, although he does seem very busy with Matchroom / Hearn enterprises away from snooker, and might be a tad expensive.

Is MJA the MC because he's not good at all?

Although MacDonald's introducing a pair of vegans isn't without irony.

But what a dour match - not the greatest advert for entertaining snooker. |

Surprised to see Rinnie play this week, I'd have expected him not to play now till the World Championship...what do I know!

Really chuffed for Holty as he wins the decider against Ronald. Listened to his podcast interview with Dave Hendon last week and it gave you a real insight into the mental agonies of a snooker player, he was very frank in his admission that psychologically he's been found wanting down the years. So to win a high profile match like this, and hold it together commendably in the decider must be very pleasing for him and Terry his mentor.

It was a very intriguing game wasn't it. Lots of high breaks early on finished off with a tense, safety focused decider!
Well done Holty, he's a good player and has been playing well for a while. Could go quite far this week if he continues to play like he did tonight. One more thing. Kudos to ITV. Stayed with the Ding match right to the end despite not finishing till after 7pm. Then showed the two scheduled games and are now showing Mark Allen v David Grace on table two. Top draw! |

Some good matches and some not so good matches today.
Really pleased for Michael Holt, held his nerve well in the decider against Ronnie O'Sullivan and had hit some quality breaks in the first three frames as well. This was a well earned win and definitely not a lucky one either. Stephen Maguire being beaten by John Higgins though means that Maguire's going to have to have a good run in the China Open (he's not qualified for the Players Championship Finals) to get inside that top 16. And if the likes of Ding and Kyren Wilson progress far here in Llandudno, then he's definitely going to be in real trouble. |

Some interesting matches last night, notably Mark Selby crashing out to Tom Ford, who did play pretty well all round - certainly no fluke.
Shaun Murphy capitalised on some Michael White mistakes to qualify easily 4-0, and that meant he was able to finish at a reasonable time. It was good of ITV4 to switch over for Jamie Jones v Kyren Wilson though. Although Judd Trump - Stuart Bingham is potentally tie of the round, Michael Holt v Liang Wenbo should be an interesting one too - especially as Liang could do with the ranking money to ensure a top 16 place (he's currently according to projected rankings less than £1k ahead of Kyren Wilson) |

I'm sure he said he wasn't playing until the World Championship.
- Winning that event qualified him for this one and I dont think he realised - This event clashed with an exbo he was doing in Morocco at the weekend. He didnt really need to reschedule it now, in hindsight.... |

A couple of the more interesting points as the race to the crucible hots up:
Stephen Maguire will need to make the QF minimum in China to avoid the dreaded three qualifiers From seemingly nowhere, if Ali Carter could win this event, he'll be back in the top 16. That'd be great. |

Ding doing his Crucible chances no harm, the first man through to the semis.

Definitely a massive plus for Ding getting to the semis here. And Joe Perry through too against Ali Carter.
It'd help Ding's cause tonight if Stuart Bingham gets past Ryan Day, AND if Shaun Murphy turns over Liang Wenbo, but I can see both matches going close. |
