Yeah they need to pick up more sports rights yet to do some like that. I guess they probably will as snooker rights are up for grabs I think at the end of this year?
They do need so form of live football, even if German or Italian. However can't see that happening with BT and Sky gobbling up football. However, two things. First, is football the be all and end all? Second, there are many sports that are covered live behind a paywall, which an FTA channel could pick up highlights packages for, probably comparatively cheaply. The BBC is under extreme pressure to reduce costs and if ITV want to take gamble with shareholders (as opposed to licence fee payers) money an ITV Sports channel could work for them in the medium term - say, if the ITV4 were rebranded as ITV Sports at weekends to begin with, a la Thames and LWT back in the day. |

Snooker when on Eurosport isn't just a British Eurosport bid it's Europe so an event like the Paul Hunter Classic has German Eurosport as host broadcaster |

ITV have done a great job of the snooker (and darts) and I love the idea of ITV 4 becoming a purely free to air sports channel but I don't think they have the financial musle to do it.
Anyway I don't think many would want them to grab terrestrial rights to the Worlds off the BBC myself included. |

A lot of the players are over in China playing in the Chinese Pool World Championship at the moment. It's basically pool on a 9 foot snooker table.
Ding, Trump, Higgins, Williams, Maguire, Dott, Robertson and a few others are taking part as well as some well known 9 ball players. Live coverage starts at 1 am but during the day the HD stream shows repeats of the previous day's play. - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/turning-stone |

Surprised Selby isn't in it. He likes his pool.

Why not? Everyone has ITV4 these days. They could show one table live all day, every day of the tournament and whack the other one on their website. At least one table would be in HD all day, then again I always watch it via Eurosport these days for that very reason. At least until the final, anyway.

I wish they'd make the HD version of ITV4 free to air though.

Players Championships finals from tomorrow through to Sunday on ITV4, this time with best of 11 semis and best of 19 final as opposed to best of 7's all the way through.
ITV have secured Stephen Hendry's services too, which is a bit of a coup. Not sure if that's in addition to or in place of one of the current team though. |

McManus is playing so I'd guess he'll be replacing him.

I guess so. I can always watch this week's tournament on Eurosport International HD, but it won't have the same commentary.

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering, where do you receive Eurosport International HD in English? Or do you the German feed, with Rolf Kolb commentary?

Not a great advert for the game this afternoon. Deciding frame between Woolaston and Robertson in front of a crowd of 9. Plus the pocket broke so a delay whilst they gaffa taped it up.

Pity as we could be in for a dramatic end here, but it seems crowds are often sparse by the late afternoon early in the ITV events. As Hendry pointed out, doesn't look great for the table manufacturers...

Poor crowd again tonight. Not too bad on the Williams v Dale table but the other match looks like they are entertaining themselves. I don't get it because ticket prices are very reasonable. Mind you at the UK Champs they were giving away tickets to this event at every session.
