Coming back to the theme of the very poor crowds in the arena, I am inclined to think that they could have had larger crowds had they held this tournament in Germany, Poland, Belgium - well almost anywhere other than Manchester. it just doesn't appear to have captured the imagination of the Manchester public. Are ticket prices too high; or perhaps public transport is inadequate? I don't know.
Now of course, I absolutely appreciate that they probably wouldn't have got a sponsor such as Ladbrokes had the tournament been staged outside UK, nor would they have got ITV to cover it so comprehensively - and the cost of staging it, shipping the players out of the UK and set up would also have been more costly. Set against that, I'm sure the players would rather perform in from of larger crowds, and perhaps the flat atmosphere is contributed to some of the below par performances. |

I know it's slightly off topic but those Fray Bentos adverts on in the evening really do my head in. The bloke in it is such an arse

Anyway, back to today and Ricky is playing some lovely stuff to lead 4-1, pot success over 95% at time of writing which is pretty exceptional. |

So Mark Allen came back to win 6-4 over Shaun Murphy, and the final with him and Ricky Walden should make for an intriguing match. Either player would jump up two provisional world ranking places if they won (Allen 8 to 6, Walden 10 to 8, and Allen would drop to 9 if this happened too) - either way both look pretty safe to be top 16 come the Crucible.
Looking ahead to three China Open, three of the last 128 qualifying matches have been held over till China, I guess due to national interest: Stuart Bingham v Cao Yupeng Ding Junhui v Lee Walker Liang Wenbo v Peter Lines Assuming Ding and Liang both win, that's £4000 extra they'd both get and bring them both closer to Michael White in the provisionals. However a loss for either one of them might put their top 16 place in huge jeopardy depending on other results, and Liang can't afford that currently being 17th. |

So it's Mark Allen V Ricky Walden in the final..
Allen will be out for a bit of revenge. |

Looking forward to the final tomorrow. I like both players although if I had to pick one, I'd like to see Ricky Walden win.
Bit of an underwhelming couple of days for Shaun Murphy, he looked unstoppable earlier in the week and during the World Grand Prix a couple of weeks back. Credit to him for sticking to his attacking style despite the fact that his long game wasn't working for him. |

Surprised Murphy didn't make it but then he did had a sloppy match against Wollaston. Can't wait this afternoons snooker as I'm out but I will tune in this evening.
I also watched The rack pack on BBC Iplayer last night. Interesting snow. Kevin Bridgesas Barry Hearn made me laugh. I didn't know a lot about Alex Higgins before this, such a talent but battled with the demons. I can see why people compare him and Ronnie. |

Ooh thought we were going to get a rare as hen's teeth 16 red total clearance there!
Ricky has made one before in the UK Championship mind....141 against Mark Davis in 2008. |

Good effort by Ricky to close from 3-7 to 5-7. Massive frame before the mid-session interval coming up.

This might not the popular view but I do think this final should be best of 7.
This event is the culmination of PTC events, where every single game ( from last round to last ) is best of 7. This event started off with that and I think the semi finals and final should be too. It's like saying in the FA Cup, all games 90 minutes except the semi final will be 100 minutes and the final 200. |

I disagree. To win a PTC event you have to win 28 frames, and under this new format you now have to win 28 to win the finals event so it's an equal test. Moreover though, a best of 7 final is always a bit something of nothing, so to have a best of 19 proper final as the culmination of all the PTC events and final event is perfectly fitting.

Neal Foulds has certainly earned his money this weekend.
Where did Hendry disappear to? |

We are going to have to disagree on this one TC, I cannot see your point about it. A better analogy I should have used should have been T20. When they get to finals day make it T25 and then T54. This is an event finals you qualify for by winning or playing well over the best of 7. The whole concept of the PTC's is best of 7 sprints.
The difference for me is that the regular ptc event finals have a winners prize of around 20k. Considering they are playing for 100k here, I think a longer format should be in use. Not that it matters much though as this is probably the last players championship finals anyway... |

Looking at the longer camera shots of Allen, I think he's eaten an entire rack of reds alongside his rack of lamb.
