Looking at the longer camera shots of Allen, I think he's eaten an entire rack of reds alongside his rack of lamb.

Good performance by the Championship player. Up to number 6 in the world now isn't he ? Glad to see Ricky back to his best after a poor year. China Open starts on Tuesday so not long to wait to more snooker

![]() Well done Mark Allen! Great to see some emotion, you could see it meant an awful lot too him. Now he's won in the UK he has to be seen as a major contender for the World Championship. Good week for Ricky Walden, one of my favourite players to watch when he's in full flow so obviously I'm glad to see him back to his best. |

The schedule planners must be complete numptys.
All off to China, at 7 in the morning our time tomorrow. I'm having the event off personally or I'll be all snookered out by the time the big one starts. |

Allen himself was struggling and is not happy with his cue. He's apparently sending it off to be tweaked. Actually funny that he won with having that in the back of your mind. Also I guess you can get to much of a judgement over short matches where players can't settle in. |

Already in the China Open there's some results which are going to affect the top 16:
Michael White has been beaten 5-1 by Jack Lisowski, so that's his money totalled at £190,033. Ding could pass it if he wins a couple of rounds plus his heldover game, so that total for White could be for 16th place and a potential sum to aim at if that happens, or it's Ding's total to chase. Stephen Maguire won his match 5-3 against last year's finalist Gary Wilson, so that's him up another £2.5k. However the match to watch is Liang Wenbo, currently 2-3 down to Peter Lines. If he loses this, he's going to have to go through the Crucible qualifiers... |

Anyone know who is fighting in China this week for the last few top 16 spots to avoid having to win 4 qualifying matches to reach the Crucible? I am right that Maguire, Ding & White are among them?
PS I posted this before I saw the previous post above - honest it wasn't there when I started composing it

Would I be right in thinking that Peter Lines is the oldest player on the tour ? I don't know if Jimmy White still counts. Peter Lines is 46. Few at 45 - Ebbo, Rory and Angles

The China Open winner gets £85k, the runner up £35k and semis £21k... I think if I remember Maguire needs to get to at least the semis (or the final if Ding progeesses along) to be guaranteed top 16. |

Peter Lines has won 5-2, and Liang Wenbo is out - so off to Ponds Forge he goes. Along with Michael White out, Stephen Maguire and Ding Junhui must be pleased...
Ding up next session. |

Jimmy is still a bona fide tour player - he survived as one of the European Order of merit top-ups, so is the oldest player on the circuit 👍🏻

Thanks for the link to the provisional ranks page zawtowers. Certainly keeping an eye on that will spice up my viewing of the China Event.
Stephen Maguire must be terrified of the prospect of having to go to Ponds Forge for sure he won't fancy that at all! |

Looks like a two horse race then. Ding or Maguire. Reading those Sheffield rankings it could be a Ronnie v Robbo quarter final. That's an exciting prospect

Joe Johnson and Phil Studd making a joke about Joe working so late last night and working now. Confirming, what everyone knows, they are no nearer China than we are.
Poor crowds in again, certainly considering Ding is playing. Down to high ticket price I am guessing |

Whats going on with ding? Plummeting down the rankings and might have quality for the worlds. Only 2 or 3 years ago when he won 5 tournaments in one season and now can't seem to buy a win.

I remember arguing on here ( unlike me I know ) who said that the top 16 would soon be full of Chinese players. Well we may not have 1 single player from China in the top 16 come Sheffield.

So here's how it works out if Ding loses to Lee Walker.
Stephen Maguire would have to get to the semis or better and do better than Kyren Wilson. Kyren Wilson would also have to get to the semis or better and do better than Stephen Maguire. Robert Milkins would have to win to qualify and depend on how Maguire / Wilson do (if The Milkman got to the final, he'd be a mere £281 behind Ding!) Ryan Day would have to get to the final to qualify and depend on all three results above. If Ding does beat Lee Walker but goes out next round: Stephen Maguire would have to get to the final and do better than Kyren Wilson Robert Milkins would have to win to qualify and depend on how Maguire / Wilson do Ryan Day would have to win to qualify and depend on all three results. If he got to the final in this scenario, he'd be around £2k behind Ding. Kyren Wilson would still have to get to the semis or better and do better than Stephen Maguire. |
