Not quite a full open draw is it ?

Seeds 17-80 are kept apart from seeds 81 to 144 so you cannot say get Ding v Wenbo in round 1. Also it is possible, the way the bracket is done, that seeds 17-32 could all qualify for The Crucible.

Couple of pieces of sad news coming out of the snooker world today.

Firstly, Bill Davis (Steve's father) has passed away.

Secondly, Willie Thorne has said that his cancer has got worse and he needs therapy
Sad news...Willie Thorne rocks, great personality of the game - get well soon.

I just saw that Peter Ebdon is playing James Watanna in the 1st qualifying round

I'm sure they must have played at the Crucible in the 90's

According to CueTracker, they have played twice at The Crucible. 1994 when Wattana won 10-6 and in 2001 when Ebbo won 10-8. Both times in the first round and both times the winner was the seeded player

What must surely be a first, according to the draw sheet on World Snooker, two matches play to completion on the opening Saturday! It says Fu am and pm, with Murphy sandwiched in between.

Happened from 1985-1994 inclusive according to Wikipedia.

TC... are you doing a predictor this year for when it starts at the Crucible?

I don't fancy doing all the qualifiers so I probably won't do the prediction-game one this time.

The qualifiers have started in earnest this morning - and there's already some potential shocks ahead.

Nigel Bond is 4-1 up on Andrew Higginson, and Jamie Jones is 4-1 down against Hamza Akbar.

I've updated my World Snooker FAQ, and this now includes when the top 16 are playing in the first round, so you can work out who to watch when. Once the qualifiers have been decided, I'll update that section anyway.

http://www.zawtowers.org.uk/Writing/...nookerfaq.html

There's a PDF on the same page, which I'll also update, so if you prefer, you can bookmark the PDF link there and refer to that as you need.

Jamie Jones down 2-7 at the end of his first session.

Tipped him to get to the Crucible on Twitter yesterday.

Yes I am mate I'm just the same - would've entered Dean's but it's just too much effort

Jimmy's been going well to lead 3-1 at the mid-sesh I see - just off home to watch him now......and invariably Jonah him to a 3-6 end of session deficit

Cheers. Looks like my Jimmy jinx is getting into full swing, he's just gifted Greene the 8th and its 4-4 with one to play in the session...

Not much joy for the female entrant Ng On Yee, she is currently 9-0 down to Peter Lines. Shame Reanne Evans isn't in the field, she beat Yee on Monday to regain her world crown.

Jamie Jones is out 10-5 against Hamza Akbar, the first little mini-shock of qualifying.

Also tense between Andrew Higginson and Nigel Bond, could go either way this one...

Certainly didn't see that one coming! Amazingly, that was Hamza's first win as a professional (so the first time he's won some prize money!).

Higginson & Bond are about to play the first decider of this years World Championships.

Nigel Bond goes through, good result considering he was thinking of quitting the game altogether.

Ebdon went through in the last completed match of day one 10-6 against Wattana. Not surprising he finished last is it!!! His section of the draw on paper looks easy for him to qualify.

Gerard Greene gets it back to 9-8. If Greene loses he will fall off the tour and have to go to Q School so its an important match for him too!
