I've always thought of Davis as the type of player/person that would keep playing as long as he could qualify for tournaments, playing for the love of the game, unlike say Hendry who didn't want to go on if he wasn't going to be the best in the world.

Great comeback by Anthony Hamilton against Chris Wakelin tonight, trailing 6-9 at one point, comes back to win 10-9, plays Robbie Williams in the final qualifer, another final qualifier match is Milkins against Maflen, those are the only two final qualifier matches where we know both players involved

That's just the point though - its hard enough for anyone, such is the standard even of the mid-ranked players, to come through three best of 19's to qualify for the Crucible, yet alone someone who's almost sixty and effectively retired.

A better bet had he the inclination would've been to use his invite for the UK which is televised more or less from the get go and probably only have had to win one best of 11 to get on a TV table, yet he didn't enter..... which tells you a lot about where he is with the game now, and who could blame him.

I'm sure Davis once said that he told his dad he would still play until 60 so maybe one last appearance?

Great comeback by the Sherriff. Not been at the Crucible for at least 8 years.

Some dramatic comebacks last night, not least by Anthony Hamilton.

There's already some tasty final round qualifying matches - Milkins v Maflin might be pretty close, as may well be McManus v Jimmy Robertson too.

As per last year, all the final sessions are on the Wednesday, so it means we've got a full day of finding out who goes through. That definitely upped the excitement on the Wednesday evening.

Hopefully World Snooker might stream that live as they did last year too..

Moderating the PG Snooker Comp has certainly got me watching and following the qualifiers a lot closer than i usually would, and thoroughly enjoying it too.

Ding v Bond for a crucible place would be an interesting match up. Nigel almost gave it up this year didn't he ? Tons of experience.

Could end up with many of the players ranked 17-32 at the Worlds

Keeping an eye on this morning's matches, and here's an interesting scoreline Alfie Burden currently leads Ryan Day 5-1

Three more players through to final round of qualifying- David Gilbert, Matthew Stevens and Dechawat Poomjaeng, one of two tight matches going on right now and one or two possible upsets.

Edit: Zhang Anda has knocked out Mark Davis 10-5

Good win for Sam Baird over Tom Ford, 10-7.

Brecel in danger of elimination here, gone 8-9 down to the very capable Liam Highfield and on the brink in the next.....

Edit: Gone 10-8

Doherty through but it looks like he wasn't at his best today, a 7-2 lead overnight, ended up as a 10-7 victory,

Bit of a surprise brecel out. Doesn't seem to be living up to expectations.

Did make his first major ranking final this season in Germany to be fair. But yes, he is patchy. Apparently he was complaining of feeling jaded - God knows how he's going to feel when he gets to my age then.

Good to see Kenny make the last Q. round - he's defending 16 grand from his last 16 achievement back in 2014 of course....

Craig Steadman coming from 9-5 down to against Anthony McGill to level at 9-9, they'll have to wait to play the final frame until the evening session

Edit: looks like they decided to let Steadman and Mcgill play that final frame, very understandable

Could be a very late night tonight... Gerard Greene just 4-2 ahead of Peter Ebdon. Only played 6 frames this morning in over 4 hours!

Peter Ebdon didn't complete all nine frames in the first session of his first match either...

Ding first through tonight 10-1 against Ross Muir. Mcgill won that match against Steadman 10-9

Some comeback by Anthony McGill, and maybe the longer game suits him mentally. I'd like to see him back at the Crucible, but in Thepchaiya Un-Nooh it won't be so easy as some people might think.

We're also guaranteed a new face at the Crucible as Liam Highfield faces Sam Baird too.

I wonder if Ken qualifies if he'll kiss the Crucible carpet when he comes on?

Ouch at this scoreline Gerard Greene 8, Peter Ebdon 2

Some players really suffering from "crossing the line-itus" tonight. Matt Selt, Alfie Burden, Kyren Wilson and Zhou Youlong all needing one frame and struggling to get it. In fact Matt Selt has been pulled back to 9-9 by Mitchell Mann. The Carter match is the one they are showing

Looks like Ryan Day might take that match against Burden to a decider

Great comeback by Ryan Day to win 10-9 and even more amazing Mitchell Mann has beaten Matthew Selt 10-9

Pretty sure that Sam Baird has already made the Crucible at least once before, he might have played Mark Selby... I can't remember exactly but he's definitely qualified.

One interesting match in the final round is Dechawat Poomjaeng vs Zhou Yuelong! Obviously we'd all love to see 'Jack' make the Crucible again! And Zhou Yuelong is something of a wonderkid... so talented considering he's only 18. Plays the game to such a high level for someone so young.

I'd like to see "Jack" again
Shame Steve Davis lost against Fergal O Brien (I think). oh well

2013 yes, he lost to Stuart Bingham

There's some good final round matches, some matches between players who would be a shock qualifier whoever won, and some between very good players such as Milkins- Maflin and Lisowski- Gilbert . Stevens against Wilson and Doherty against Day should be crackers
