Really impressed by McGill, he always seems to thrive at the world championship.

One visit snooker at the moment and he leads Murphy 7-6!

Anyone else notice, World Snooker seem to have a 'Water' sponsor again. The players have branded water bottles for their use. Seem to be from a Chinese company. Nothing about the deal on the World Snooker site or anywhere else!

Just checked. Not at the crucible (although a few years in the 1980s only had one seed fall).

Smurf 8-6 down. He's in trouble. Brilliant from Mcgill

I saw that. Water, glass, ice bucket etc. Old Barry doesn't miss a trick

Thanks guys

I wasn't sure as I couldn't remember it happening but some of my memory cells don't work as well as they once did

In 1983 only Jimmy White fell, 8-10 to Tony Meo, & in 1993 only Alain Robidoux went out, 10-6 to Doug Mountjoy, but never have all 16 seeds prevailed.

Is Eurosport having a studio team a new thing this year?

They've had one at a couple of tournaments this season - the German Masters definitely had one and they've had it for the UK another tournament.

Definitely new for the World Championship. Is coventry shirt guys black band to cover up a sponsor?

Well I prefer them not to have a studio team as it ruins it. Not keen on Colin Murray.

I preferred their no nonsense coverage.

Well played Anthony McGill, he obviously likes Sheffield. Fair play to Smurph, great sportsmanship right to the end

And within the space of 14 hours or so both of last year's finalists have gone out

Class performance from McGill... Some may be surprised but I'm not at all, McGill is a quality player and could certainly do some damage in this tournament!

Both of last year's finalists out in round one this year!

Their commentary is by far the best.

Their pundrity is marginally less shite than the BBC, but nowhere near as good as ITV.

He doesn't appear with his friend the last few years , the other guy who wore various tops.

His friend used to wear a Dundee United top my team amongst others.

We were sponsored by calor gas one year and he was actually given free calor gas products for his home

Cheers TC. Thanks for looking it up

Just started a conversation in our house about Robidoux and Ronnie playing left handed

Really good to see smug God-botherer Murphy out. Excellent by McGill.

As someone who has lapsed a bit from snooker golf is my first watch outside football. I do feel that the first day and a bit has proved is that no one outwith osullivan is able to really have a sustained run of form these days.

Maybe it's the amount of tournaments these days but there is no outstanding players these days there are very good players but no one great .

I suppose that it shown by the provisional world rankings which at the moment have Bingham and Murphy one and two

You wouldn’t exactly call Tony Meo or Alain Robidoux outstanding though.

Everybody says it’s great in golf when you get different winner every week, yet when the same thing happens in snooker apparently it’s bad for the game which is ridiculous.

Many good players, a few very good players and 2 or 3 standout players at any one time up to the early middle part of the 1990’s. But today there is a far greater depth of very good players than say 25 years and way back to the back and beyond, even if there are fewer standout players today.
