Perhaps that was in their mind. A further announcement later in the month isn't there - 28th?

A few dates for the diary to note, especially if you'd like to get a good seat at the World Championship or any special offers for early bird tickets for other events.

Thursday 28th April

UK Championship, York
Masters, Alexandra Palace

Monday 2nd May

World Championship, The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

Incidentally, I think it's only the trophy itself that's being renamed for Paul Hunter (similar to the Peter Brock Trophy for those who win the Bathurst 1000 motor race in Australia) but the tournament remains the Masters.

anybody who fancies trying out a day to the snooker I recommend getting tickets for the UK in York. We got quarter final tickets and they were just £6 each.

I agree - been to the UK myself and it's a good place to go and watch at the Barbican. The early bird offers are particularly good so I hope they repeat them.

It also looks like the first weekend of the 2017 Worlds is Easter weekend so I might be able to go a few more times

From the world snooker website, today the list of those relegated from the tour, although already largely known, was finalised:

Gerard Greene
Craig Steadman
David Morris
Cao Yupeng
Peter Lines
Michael Georgiou
Joel Walker
Zak Surety
Michael Wasley
Barry Pinches
Chris Melling
Michael Leslie
Tony Drago
Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon
Lu Ning
Steven Hallworth
Ian Glover
Lyu Chenwei
Rouzi Maimaiti
Ju Reti
Liu Chuang
Steve Mifsud

Disappointing that prospects like Wasley & Walker who looked destined for very good things a while ago have dropped off the tour, hopefully they can re-qualify through Q-School. And of course Tony Drago losing his status is sad.

Couple of old timers like Peter Lines, Tomy Drago and Barry Pinches dropping off. They probably won't be back I fear. Surprised at Michael Georgiou though, he's had a few good results at times. Pool champion Chris Melling showing he couldn't cut it in snooker too

Big steal in that last frame after Judd missed a black off its spot. The Robbo / Trump quarter ain't really working out is it?!

Could have world 17 and 18 playing in the last 16. Ironic that both ( Ding and Liang ) had to qualify yet Maguire and White have fallen at the first hurdle

You may be wrong Darren... every player that you mentioned in your post has entered Q School! Full list here:

Good but I'd be surprised if they won back their cards. Drago, Lines and Pinches I mean

Couple of interesting names there.
Dessie Sheehan who I remember from years and years ago - he must be absolutely ancient.

And Sonnie O'Sullivan - which somebody has probably made up!

What's happened to ding over last few years.

He probably needs a good tournament to help his rankings although I think he should just amount manage to stay in the top 16.

I always felt he was a bit overrated though and his temperament was poor especially against osullivan .

People always said he could win the world championship but I never thought was likely.

No prizes for guessing who will commentate on the BBC for John Higgins next match will be Dennis Taylor who always seems to be up his backside e.g. favours him more than the opponent and he knows his wife.

I didn't see any of it but just turned over to Eurosport as Joe Perry took a 3-1 lead over Kyren Wilson. Mike Hallet said "This has been the best start to any session all week." So I am guessing some big breaks. The 4 frames took just one hour

Can't believe Ding lost that frame.

what a great night of snooker. not only the excitement of Ding v the self proclaimed GOAT but next door. 4-4 at the moment. Kyren Wilson just had 12 reds and 11 blacks before missing the 12th black trying to get position. Some very high quality, and quick, snooker from these 2.

Gutted for Kyren Wilson there - breaking down on the 12th black of a max. Had it gone in the reds would have been spot on to get it too. Still, good stuff and 4-4.

Fair play to Ding to put that frame where Gould needed and got 3 snookers' worth of points to snatch it at 8-6 behind him to then level it at 8-8. The century in the 15th frame was superb.

Kyren Wilson comes back from 3-1 and 4-2 to lead 5-4 overnight. 9 frames played in just over 2 and a bit hours.

He's shown great mental fortitude tonight to overturn that 6-8 deficit into a 9-8 lead, especially after the way he lost frame 14.

Nah - there's only one real Hitman.

Thomas Hearns.

Another cracking match tonight between Ding and Gould - it's high quality stuff.

Ding completes an excellent comeback, really pleased for him given his trials and tribulations of late.
