He can't let ricky get into his rhythm. If John plays like in his first round and ricky does same then John will comfortably.

Amazing to think that a player can fall from world number 1 to number 7 after one tournament. That's the power of the world championship prize money I guess.

Look at Bingham for example, had a terrible season but could be world number one after this tournament! This time next year though he could fall a few places when he loses his world title prize money.

yep, makes a mockery of it. Think it should be one year not two. Darts went from 2 to 1.

11-9 at the interval. Baird has a chance

Huge credit to Baird, the way he is just about staying in this.
He won't win tonight but he looks like a future Top 16 player to me.

But when the prize money for the world champ winner goes up to 500K whoever wins that will be more or less guaranteed world number one spot.

Neil just said there are 6 who can be no1 if they win this. If they needed more of an incentive then that'll do it.

Well with two years they will be one and two regardless of how they perform all year round. The points system seemed fairer do you not think ?

5-3 to John Higgins overnight. Would love to see him V Ronnie in the final. Two of the greatest ever.

Yep look at the year Ding won five majors - under a points system surely he'd have been number one in the world - as some of them didn't carry that much bunce not sure he even made the top 3!

I've liked Ebdon as well.

Hopefully Dennis is healthy soon but stays away from the commentary box. He was excruciating during the early part of Trump's first round.

Very unexpected tonight. When Selby won the first two frames I was wondering if they'd even reach the interval.

Great effort from Sam to level up at 11-11. He's a very good player, I'm surprised at how good his safety is at times.

Willie tweeted earlier saying he was off to visit Den. There was a picture of Dennis in hospital with his thumbs up, he looked well too. But i reckon, even if he comes out tomorrow, doctors will advise him to rest for a week at least. Go home and watch it in comfort Dennis and get well soon.

The greater experience just starting to show for me now we're getting down to the crunch, Mark just looks that little bit more assured. Not surprising though, I'd be struggling to even hold a cue under this pressure!

Well played Jester. Hope this proves the start of better things for Sam Baird rather than looking back on this in a few years time as a career highlight.

I agree - well played Sam.

The match of the tournament so far - that could be the start of Selby really hitting top form again.

Does anyone else really enjoy Ebdon's commentary?

I love it when he gets all excited about a top quality shot - always liked him even though he was not exactly a Hurricane/Whirlwind/Rocket on the table.

Yeah I love the way Ebbo exclaims 'what a shot!' when a blinding pot at a critical juncture goes in....rather In the manner of a football commentator when the ball hits the back of the net
