Quite a good article here on the matter, gives a bit of background too:

Does seem odd something apparently so trivial led to this. I’m guessing she made a pretty decent living from the sport and £1k bonus wouldn’t really be of any real significance to her financially.
Quote:
Referees are by no means overpaid. Some of the officials who take charge of European Tour and qualifying matches receive very little. Therefore, although the bonus was “only” £1,000, this money, in the grander scheme of things, was not insignificant.
Who knows? Maybe she did make more as she was a kind of poster girl and one of the main group of refs. Also she seemed to imply that it was more the discrimination rather than the actual money that was the problem. |

Congratulations to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh on winning the six reds world championship today. More than likely to gain a Champion Of Champions berth at the end of the year too.

Shanghai Masters underway today but a sad day for those of us who read Snooker Scene in the 80's as Janice Hale, CE's number two, has passed away. RIP.

Continuing with horrible news. As if cancer was not enough, Willie Thorne has now suffered a stroke. http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrit...feared-6433457 |

More sad news, Mark Selby has had to withdraw due to family bereavement (father-in-law I believe).

Fine win for Jamie Cope over Robbo 5-4. Great to see Jamie back to winning ways when you consider losing on that final black to Steve in the World Qualifying back in April cost him his top 64 place and he had to rely on the Euro Order of Merit to retain his professional status.
Could so easily have been the, erm, cue to hang up his cue, but he's far too good a player imo to be in such dire straits. Still only 30 too, maybe his career can catch a second wind yet, especially if he can sort out that arm tremor problem. |

First Shanghai semi-final will be a repeat of their World Semi-Final: Trump v Bingham.

What an absolutely superb last frame between Ding and Kyren Wilson, fantastic tension. Real nail biter and well done Kyren on reaching his first ranking semi final.

That was a great black under that kind of pressure. Chuffed for Kyren. Ding still not in the CofC remember...

I got home just in time for the decider. Great win for Kyren Wilson, he was clearly chuffed at the end!

Obscene one visit quality shared mini-session between Bing & Trump, every frame a minimum of a 90+ break....well worth getting up for!

Wheels came off for the defending and world champ after the break strangely though, Trump comfortably through in the end 6-3.

Why on earth did they have to show live Davis Cup Tennis on British Eurosport today! Even the highlights were cut short!
I'm aware it was shown in full on the Eurosport Player (which has had bad reviews!) but the tennis was live on the BBC! |

Eurosport is a commercial channel, it relies on adverts so they rely heavily on ratings. They will show what gets a bigger audience and the snooker is way down the pecking order, even over a sport being shown on another channel. |

when I saw the comment from ontheradio I knew you'd be replying Darren!
seriously though I agree with you. I mean I always complain when I see that snooker is not on TV but I completely understand why other sports get chosen. Even repeats of some sports will even be ahead of snooker. Also, I don't see the problem with EuroSport player? I get it on my iPad for just £2.99 a month. I get to watch snooker whenever it is on, regardless of whether its on TV or not. It never crashes, its very good quality and I can watch it in full screen (unlike most betting sites). The only thing that could be improved is the fact that there is no commentary but I certainly wouldn't give it a bad review. |

You'll be waiting until bedtime tonight if you want to see any coverage of the final, as supposedly it's Superbike Sunday. (insert 'yawn' smillie here- except they don't have one anymore).
Beat me like a bad boy Darren.... |
