If Ding wins the whole thing he will be the first player to have won 8 matches to take the title

How many matches did Shaun Murphy win when he won the World Championship

Anyone remember this documentary from 2001?

'Like a Hurricane: The Alex Higgins Story' (narrated by Paul McGann).

It found it very depressing at the time.

As already said it was one less, qualifying changed recently whereby all players ranked 17-144 are thrown in at the same stage and battle down to 16 qualifiers.

It used to be the case where players came in at different stages of the qualifiers, so if you were ranked 17-32 you only had to win one match, players ranked 33-48 two matches, 49-64 three matches, and so on....

Under the old method, Ding would have only had to win 6 matches to win the title.

I hope this is the first and last time Taylor mentions his brief hospital stay.

And the only other qualifier to win it, Terry Griffiths, only had 2 qualifiers to win too, Bernard Bennet ( possibly the worst ever pro player ) and Jim Meadowcroft who went onto be a good commentator

Did Bernard Bennet’s frame win/loss ratio mirror Steve Davis or Hendry at their peaks reversed?

You’ll never hear the last of it.

They could could go to a one table set up now, as the afternoon & evening session only have one match each left in the quarters.

Ha probably. Just looked on cue tracker

His match win ratio was 9.5% Stephen Hendry match loss ratio was 28.11% but that includes his early and later years

Not necessarily. If Barry Hawkins wins at least 3 frames this afternoon they are back tonight

Hawkins was never gonna win it, in way what a waste for the crucible fluker.

Since Ronnie is out I would have loved Mark Williams to win again, I hope Selby doesn't win it, I go for Ding.

No Barry <weeps into a corner>, not after shutting the fawning BBC team up with that Ronnie win.

Ding is looking bloody formidable at the moment.

Hawkins can't even make a break without his flukes. Joke of a player. As above comments, hope Ding gets it this year over Mark 'boring' Selby or John 'I'm not a cheat' Higgins.

Be good to see a bit of history here.

They're all to some degree quite boring to be fair, I like Mark's icy demeanour around the table and hope he wins. Ding would be a nice Leicesteresque winner though.

Such a shame the quarters have been a complete letdown. Probably the worst year of Quarters I can remember watching. The only match which is a contest is Higgins/McManus, the others are completely 1-sided.

I really wanted Hawkins to play well and go on to win (or at least be in the final again) but he has completely fallen apart here. At this point, kind of wish Ronnie was still in to give Fu a game.
