About Alan Mcmanus, if he wins how will that do with him in the rankings and does that mean he will be given an automatic place in the world championship next year? Meaning the number 16 has to go through the qualifying rounds

With £330,000 for the winner any player who wins it will be elevated to the top 16. I think Angles would go to number 4 in the world, so number 16 wouldnt be affected

Very good point.

Barry showed tremendous bottle and so did Marco.

So three underdogs and the world number one are left to battle it out. Ding looks fantastic and Selby is below par (for him) - it's all going to be very interesting.

The winner is automatically seeded 1 for the next World Championship, so automatic qualification for Angles would be assured.

If you check the provisional end of season rankings here:
http://www.prosnookerblog.com/rankin...ason-rankings/

Once updated with the QF results, Angles would go to a ranking of 20. If he wins he gets £330k, so could end up ranked a highest of 4.

Fouldsy was just saying on Eurosport they take the best bits of each otherwise it'd be an unfair advantage for the side of the draw (Selby's) who've been using the good table

That was some clearance by Fu to win the match! Nerves of steel.

As for Angles. Just so happy for him. He is a class act.

In all the years i have been watching the worlds at Sheffield, i never knew that one half of the draw played on one table and one on the other. Just assumed it was assigned randomly, although i know you play your whole match on the same table.

Ditto it never crossed my mind either!

Angles has shown other snooker players who are in his age range that if you keep playing it will reap rewards.

Despite me wanting Higgins to win I'm delighted for McManus.

It would be great if he could go on and win it.

Did the BBC have him pencilled in for commentating duties this year?

Eurosport did. That's all out the window

British Eurosport did

Has any other player taken longer to reach the semi finals since his last appearance in one

This is the first SF of any kind for McManus since the 2006 Grand Prix in Aberdeen!

McManus? It's like Bobby George.

Spoke far too soon eh! Ooops. Couldn't be more wrong.

Alan McManus is my firm wish to win the World Championship now. He'd surely be in for a very good chance of being BBC Sports Personality of 2016 if he pulls it off. He may have gone 23 years since last having a semi at the Crucible but Marco Fu has also gone a 10 years since his last semi. The old school is back!

Unfortunately my head says it's going to be a Selby v Ding final.

If I understand that table properly it looks like a final place would be enough for McManus to get back into the top 16. Unfortunately, with Kyren Wilson (of all people!) slipping back out.

For the first time in a good while I would have been happy to see any of the top 8 win it. Now with the 4... Selby surely deserves to be a multiple World champ, both Fu and McManus would be amazing stories and a deserved prize for sticking at it. Ding, though, I think would be the best option. To come back from a couple of sticky years, and having to qualify, after seeming to have trouble dealing with the pressure and expectation, would be great. I also think it would be good in terms of pushing things forward. He is young enough (sort of ) that it would seem like a "new generation" thing. Admittedly having been around so long that is not quite the same as if someone like Wilson had won but at least more so than with the others (albeit Selby is not much older but feels more an established figure I would say). Also it could boost the whole China interest aspect which seems to have slowed a bit. I also simply like him and his play so would love to see him make it, ironically just at the point when it started to seem like the inevitable was not going to happen after all.

Whatever happens, a qualifier in the final and so many unpredictable results (and semi-finalists) has made this a great WC.

Prices for the 2016 UK Championship are here - note the half price early bird offer albeit with the wrong dates - should be Saturday 26th to Thursday 30th November I think:

Prices for the 2017 World Snooker Championship here - note the cheapest ticket is now £20 for a session and a lot of them have gone up a fair bit!

Can't see any prices for the Masters though, but keep the eyes peeled.

We can only have one of two world number 1's after Monday now

If Selby wins the title he is number 1, if its Ding, Angles or Marco it is Bingham who retains that spot

Have to say Marco Fu does come across as the nicest man in sport doesnt he ? Seems a genuinely lovely guy

LOL it seems no matter what happens in the season it's one of the unwritten laws of snooker that Selby ends the season as world number one. Makes me think he's bound to win it!

He wouldn't retain it because Mark Selby was the world number one coming into the tournament.

I wonder if (and it a big if but you never know) IF Angles could go on and win the whole thing I wonder if he would end up retiring right there and then? Doubt it but who knows
