Eastenders Characterisation
I have to say after a dodgy few weeks for the show (IMO) I have just got back from Turkey and watched the last two weeks in two days and im absolutely loving some of the developments (though I do think some work still needs to be done.)
Kim/Denise:- I always loved Kim and although many people didn't, since her return she seems a lot more favoured. I love the Fox family as a unit and for the first week this week I've really enjoyed the chemistry with Vincent being added into the equation. His character has grown on me a lot. Donna/Vincent:- as above- their gradual introduction has been quite successful in my opinion. I can't wait until Claudette arrives officially. Plus the fact she has so much potential to bring new characters with her. New Martin:- I don't know why- he just seems to have grown on me. It took a while to come round to the idea but again I'm quite liking his involvement in the square. Max:- not a huge fan of the charcter but so glad he has lost everything. It's a new arc and I really hope that we get something fresh from it rather than the womaniser routine. Not a fan of phil at all but again if it paves the way for something worthwhile then I don't mind his victory so much this time. I didn't even dislike DVO's character. Whitney/Lee:- it was nice to see some screentime for whitney. Just no drama for the pair- some everyday scenes. I helped pave the episodes naturally. Jay and Ben:- we've seen snippets of them this week- I hope it continues. I feel they need something big for themselves though. Not a relationship between the pair but something that's about them rather than Phil. For me Jay is the most underused character in the square and is in danger of being given the axe if they don't work with him. My biggest disappointment? Charlie. He just feels a bit flat. I still like the character but I think he's reaching a point where he could easily be expended. Which is a real shame as we have already lost Aleks. I also agree with another poster on here who said we just need a touch more normality. There needs to before background stuff. Things that aren't central to the scenes but show life does move on and the whole of walford isn't caught up in the drama. I'd also really like some friendships developed. We have potential with Kim and Kat (we she not leaving) Martin and Kush, possibly Lee Jay and Ben. We just need something that's not always created for drama I guess. Overall however very impressed with the last two weeks. |
