I have been watching Sounds of the eighties on the red button and i saw Madness and i knew they good but when you listen to them they were a fantastic band and one of the best British bands of all time so i think you have to have Duran Duran Madness and Pet Shop Boys and some of great bands Who do think are the best groups of the eighties

Yeah I agree that Madness are a great band, of the 70s and 80s!

Also

Depeche Mode
Duran Duran
Culture Club
Spandau Ballet
Frankie Goes To Hollywood

I agree with PSB too but would say they're more of a duo than a band.

Also

Soft Cell
Go West
Erasure

I agree with all your choices, but I would also have to include the Cure and the Human League in there.

No need to continue.

The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, Cure and Frankie for all the drama. Madness were special too.

Another vote for The Cure. Their sound hasn't dated (not that that is a necessarily bad thing) and I can't think of a Cure song I don't like. They made some truly beautiful tracks.

Agree with all those- although U2 are like the Smiths, in that the current
annoying antics of both bands' lead singers * has sort of put me off both bands'
excellent 80s output.

I'd also add:

Depeche Mode

ABC

Cabaret Voltaire

A Certain Ratio

Hothouse Flowers

Microdisney

Yello

* Morrissey or Bono: who's the bigger jerk?

No love for the best selling band of the 80s, Dire Straits? ( Best selling UK album anyway)

I would choose U2.

And then, Simple Minds (U2 II? )

Self Titled Debut - 1980.
Killer - 1981
Number of the Beast - 1982
Peace of Mind - 1983
Powerslave - 1984
Somewhere in Time - 1986
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - 1988

And not forgetting...

Live After Death - 1985.

That's a hard discography to beat. (Shame it all went tits up in the 90's)
