She was quite a big character during the Kathleen Hutchinson era, do you think with the right money she'd be tempted back? I know she hasn't got many links at the moment, but I think she could really integrate herself back into the community and considering she was a really popular character with the viewers I think it's what the show needs in 2015!

What does everybody think?

Definitely, she was fab!

I think quite a few of the deadwood need to be axed first (such as Phil Mitchell, Stacey Slater, Ian Beale, Sharon Watts etc) to make way for the huge return of Shirley Benson! They will obviously have to promote this incredible comeback, as its guaranteed to make the ratings storm!

I wonder what breed her new cat will be?

Not sure if this a 'joke' thread but I for one did actually like Shirle Benson during her stay in EE and was one of my favourite characters at the time. Although I admit I may have had my opinion clouded by my crush on her.

This sounds like a good move to me. It would definitely shake up the square and encourage the rest of the cast to up their game having an actress of Robyn Moore's calibre back. What could her return storyline be? I'm thinking film noir for some reason ... ie, Tracy finds a finger in the skip behind The Vic and picks it up, maybe she shows it to Billy, a 'pull my finger' type prank, but then he recognises the ring (one of those ones you get from a fair ground?), they team up and trace it back to Shirely Benson. What has happened to her? Who has chopped off her finger and dumped it in the square? I know its not watertight yet but it seems like the most 'obvious' way to get her back.

Don't see why not. Not a clue who she is really as I've not found any clips of her on YouTube but she was popular with a few people on here and I wouldn't mind seeing why that is.

She was introduced & axed by Louise Berridge.

YES YES YES YES!!!

If Mandy Salter and Clare Bates could returned, why not Shirley Benson????

I was inspired by Shirley. I hope she and her son buys Shirley Carter out of the Vic. The Ferreira rewrite was probably the reason she was written out of EE. If not Robyn Moore could return as another character.

I can imagine her coming out from behind the bar to all the regulars and saying something like 'I bet you never thought you'd see me again...' Duff duff

I can back Poplife04 up on this one, they are indeed the same person Kathleen Hutchinson didn't actually exist, she was simply part of Louise Berridge's split personality syndrome

She buried it in the allotments which started the famous 'Poltergeist Cat' storyline, various characters were seeing dead cats flying around the square. The conclusion was Shirley Benson being tied up and having to have an exorcism performed on her on Arthur's bench. It was after this that the fairground disaster happened, which when compared to the Poltergesit storyline, was always panned by critics and fans.

Thanks Lucy, it's a really in depth interview and really interesting. It breaks my heart when Louise Berridge breaks down and starts crying and slapping herself to stop Kathleen taking over.

It was a truly gut-wrenching read. Why won't evil Kathleen leave our beloved Louise alone?!

I'm not convinced that Shirley Benson and Shirley Carter are two separate people. Let's examine the evidence, shall we?

1. Same name.
2. They've never been seen in the same place at the same time.
And finally, the most damning evidence of all...
3. Shirley B's beloved cat (RIP) was named Boots and we all know Shirley C's fondness for boots and keeping them on, at all times.

I believe that, traumatised by the terror inflicted upon her by ghasttly Gavin the noisy neighbour, Shirley B concocted a fake persona, Shirley C, an ideal version of herself. Shirley 2.0 was never pushed around, was never in the wrong and was never ever punished for any of her crimes. She dreamt up an earth-shatteringly epic romance with the local heartthrob, a Mr. Phil Mitchell, and even populated her imagination with her very own, ever expanding, fantasy family - the Carters. Her imagination was so potent that she even managed to convince a few million gullible people that all of these, never before mentioned, imaginary people really existed!

PLEASE if there is a miracle out there bring her back. I demand that the Almighty Shirley returns. I am not ashamed to admit that I cry publicly just thinking about her 11+ year absence from the Square. Every EP post-Louise Berridge were/are too intimidated by the real prospect that Shirley "God" Benson would take over Walford for eternity!!!!

EE has never been the same since Andy Hunter sacked her from the bookies. His fate at the hands of Johnny Allen was pure karma for daring to banish her to New Zealand.

Shirley Carter would be exposed as a name stealer and imposter....as Shirley "High Priestess" Benson reveals that SHE is the true matriarch of the Queen Victoria Public House. Mick is her son!!! His Cockney rhyming slang is a coping mechanism to overcome the trauma of being saddled with fake Shirley. The triumphant return of the true Shirley will bring out his real self - he's actually a kindly middle class GP working in Pinner. Dr Michael Benson.

I agree with SteveOwen. There's no reason why Shirley Benson and Shirley Carter can't be retconned as the same character. Did Shirley B even have any scenes with anyone apart from the Ferreiras, Andy Hunter and Gavin? Maybe Shirley B, the nicest woman in Walford, went insane after Gavin murdered her pussy and became Shirley Carter, the meanest woman in Walford. I think it's time DTC gives the people what we want and replaces Linda Henry with the only Shirley we care about - Robin Moore!

I can't wait for the episode when it all comes out like the big twist at the end of Fight Club!
