Hudl2 - Video issues
Pacman1854
11-05-2015
I've had my Hudl2 for a month or so now , and am generally pleased with the performance, and it does all I need it do.

Going away for a few days at the weekend, so was going to put some video's to watch on it. Got a couple of films on, by converting the files with Freemake to an Android MP4 file and they seem to work fine.

Tried a couple more, and neither the default video player nor VLC will entertain them. They either freeze after a couple of seconds or don't start at all and come up with a error message. Very frustrating.

I've even tried a couple in their default MP4 state, as downloaded, but to no avail.

As I said, I've used Freemake to convert the files, then drag and drop to the SD card.

What am I missing?

How did u convert them in Freemake? Is there any copy protection thats stopping them playing?

As I was unsure which video formats the Hudl2 ran, I used Freemake to convert them to an Android video file, per the icons along the bottom of the Freemake screen.

As it turns out I needn't have bothered as the Hudl supposedly handles AVI, MVC & MP4 files, so I dragged-and-dropped the original source files over to the SD card, but it wouldn't entertain those either.

I'm unaware of any copy-protection as most of the files are US TV episodes acquired via "cough cough" various means, plus a couple of my own DVD's.

Have you tried downloading a short test video from the internet in the format you are wanting to use to see if that plays?

An update.

Seems they'll play fine if they're in the Hudl's internal memory. Just dragged and dropped a few files over, AVI's and MP4's, and they play fine. However, when I try with an MKV file Windows Explorer crashes, and restarts.

Does that mean there's an issue with the SD card is it won't play video's from there?

Would a different media/movie player help? I use MX Player, on my Hudl2, to watch movies stored on the SD card. I haven't had any issues with it thus far.

A further update.

Erased, unmounted and remounted the SD card, and also installed the MX player recommended above, and so far all okay.

Only issue I have is that a couple of the files have a serious lag between the video and the sound, but that may be down to the particular file type, so I'll avoid them and try to download again as MKV or MP4 files as they seem to run okay now.

Thanks for everyone's help.
