My iPad Air battery started running down really quickly and when I checked usage the home button was showing 70%. I let it run down so that it switched off and then pressed down the home button with a microfibres cloth and gave it a good clean all around edges of button. Plugged it in and charged it and it has been fine. Turn off app background refresh too as this can eat up the battery.

Apples supplied charger is rated at 12 watts if you are using a lower rated charger then it will either charge at a slower rate or maybe not at all. Apples genuine lightning cables have circuitry that recognises whether it is genuine or not, I have had mixed results with non genuine cables some work some don't. The charging icon at the top of the screen will tell you whether it is charging or not.
