Becky didn't return for Hayley's funeral, why bother bringing her back for Deirdre's? Peter and Bev are fine as it is.

How many of the older viewers thought this thread referred to Gail's friend from the seventies, Suzie? I think she was a barmaid at one point who Fred Gee took a fancy to and who Bet hated! Of course if I only bothered to look the actress's name up I'd have seen that it in fact wasn't....

If they couldn't get Susie Blake, would Sally Lindsey have been an adequate substitute, or is she too big for Corrie now?

I hardly think they'd welcome her 'support'! There just is no plausible reason for Becky to return, even if KK wanted to. If she didn't come back for Hayley's funeral, or when Kylie disappeared, why would she come back now?

Yes, she left just a few weeks before Tracy had killed Charlie.

Oh yes, the lovely Suzie Birchall (played by Cheryl Murray) who I had a major crush on when she was in the Street.

They became quite close. I can't remember if it was when Bev was seeing Charlie or when he'd just started seeing Shelley, but she made an absolute show of herself by telling Ken that Deirdre was having an affair with Charlie and then accusing her herself. Soon enough, Bev realised she'd been an utter plonker and came back to Deirdre to apologise. She eventually confided in Deirdre about how much she disliked Charlie and when Charlie manipulated Shelley into kicking Bev out, she left Weatherfield and asked Deirdre to keep an eye on Shelley for her. Shelley arranged to see Bev over Christmas later that year but wanted to keep it quiet from Charlie, knowing that he wouldn't approve. She hid out at the Barlows as Shelley came round to see her. Bev eventually came back to the street after having updates from Deirdre that Shelley's abuse from Charlie seemed to be getting worse and eventually Charlie and Tracy ended up together which saw the pair united in their dislike for him again. Bev left a couple of weeks before Tracy did away with Charlie but she's been referred to a number of times and there's been suggestions that they've always remained in touch.

I like how they developed their friendship really over time and am pleased Bev's coming back for the funeral.

I momentarily thought it referred to her and I wasn't even alive when she was in the programme!

Thanks for that! The details of the storyline sound appropriately dignified and quite powerful, particularly Bev giving Ken Deirdre's wedding ring.

I have been thinking the same thing..I truthfully can't remember any scenes that featured both Deirdre and Bev..although they must have been a few with Deirdre being one of the Rovers best customers and Bev working behind the bar...but as for best buddies its a new one to me...

Now you have explained it all ...I very vaguely remember Bev in the Barlows sitting room sat at the table having a chat with Deirdre....I'm glad you have a good memory ..

I'm assuming that we'll have the funeral within the next three to four weeks?

Well given that Kevin suddenly can't remember his own son, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't mentioned at all.

In upcoming spoilers it mentions there being some animosity between her and Audrey. I take it this is to do with Fred?

Why though? Deirdre was never close to Bev.

And what have they done to her hair?????

Yeah, Audreh had a heart-to-heart with Fred and poured her heart out, but he went ahead with his marriage to Bev.

Yes, that's right. Audrey decided she wanted Fred right before he was due to marry Bev. Fred went round on the morning of the wedding to tell Audrey he was still going to marry Bev, then abruptly collapsed and died in her hallway. (A stroke, I think.) Bev never forgave her and Audrey was practically ostracised at the funeral.
