Have the BB contestants actually auditioned? (link)

Or have they been touted by BB?

The latter methinks, hence the very media/camera aware contestants of late.

I will watch it to see how it goes, but really wish there could be a normal BB, with no launch night twists, and no stereotypes that are set up for us to either love or hate.
I can guarantee the winner has already been chosen, and SOTS as well as the highlights will be ramming them down our throats.

I think they mean s*** on the side

And I know for certain that the London ones at least auditioned.

Well, I normally prefer a shower of sh*te OTS, but you get the gist.

I've thought it's long be known they invite people to auditions. They've still gone through the audition process only difference is some have been specifically asked to come to the auditions whereas others turn up at an open audition first. It's also something I'm sure they've been doing since the C4 days.

My point is: Wouldn't it be interesting to have normal contestants.. ie: married mum/dad of ? kids, or a practising Muslim, Jew, Hindu person? Someone who works in an everyday job...instead of being an 'international flippin' DJ?
Someone who hasn't partaken in Vampire p*rn movies, or been on dates with Christian Ronaldo.

Surely the best BB series were full of contestants who weren't vapid, vain wannabes. Also, no coincidence that those contestants are the ones who last in the publics' memories.

They are obviously just the usual TOWIE style agency types, the same as all the Channel 5 BB have had.
I have actually decided that i'm not watching this series, i can't do with the fake housemates and scripted shite.
I will just stick the the Celeb version until big changes happen with the format, or until another channel gets the show.

The thing is those sorts of people are unlikely to want to go into the show anymore. One of the reasons why so many of the contestants are DJ's and models is because most of those with 'normal' jobs aren't go to be able to bugger off for the summer.

There seems to be a few with normal jobs this year but it's becoming too difficult for lots of normal people to apply. People with office jobs, hands on jobs, lawyers, doctors just won't be allowed to leave behind an important job to do a reality show.

Just imagine asking your manager 'can I have 3 months off to go on BB?'

Someone with an everyday job couldn't take 3 months off and people need to realise this. You'll never have totally 'normal' people in the house, the closest you'll get are the young students who don't have such career/life commitments.

But we have no good reason to believe these HMs are vapid or vain; and I think the number of HMs who have actually been vapid, vain wannabes has been small (even in the C5 BBs). Even some of the supposedly best series had HMs who were promotions girls or glamour models or DJs, or who'd been on the fringes of the celeb world. Some of them have lasted in the public's memories too.

The Mirror article linked in this thread says "almost every one of them has a celebrity connection in some way or another", but when it comes to the specifics, it's about less than half of them. That's still a significant number, but the Mirror's exaggerating.

Simon's DigitalSpy interview makes me think they were hired.

11. Simon thinks this is going to be a "cracking" series of Big Brother.
"Perez Hilton, move over!" he joked. "I've been cast to do this and this is going back to my theatre roots - I just don't want to let them down and I don't want to let myself down. I want to make this a cracking show. And I think I can but I need the cast around me as well. I just want to make cracking television and just have a really good time and I just think it's going to be the best Big Brother ever. And if it's not, I'm sorry - I did try!"

Ugh!
Let me guess... lots of high-jinks, banter, pranks, jumping in the pool naked?
(where's the eye-roll when you need it?)
