I never understood why Wolfy became so disliked. Okay, she was a bit odd, had a high opinion of herself and she had some rather nasty habits like spitting, but she wasn't spiteful or malicious in any way. Over the years, there have been so many characters who I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Despite everything, Wolfy always struck me as a nice person who would be a good, supportive friend to people.
