Completely discarding the stupidity of tonight's twist, there was something that happened tonight which is very significant in the history of Big Brother, and I haven't seen in mentioned, so thought I'd make a thread. Sorry if it has already been brought up, the forum moves so fast and I haven't seen everything.

The significant thing is that Simon is the first ever male first evictee. Up until now, there has been the peculiar phenomenon that a woman has always gone first, not including walkers and ejections. I suppose that record had to end at some point...

Only by chance though. Pretty sure once the vote lines open it will be a woman voted out first again.

If it was ever going to happen i was hoping it would happen the proper way, with us voting that person out.

It'd be a lot more significant were it not essentially random.

Agree Piipp - complete chance. Unless you have the correct phone you couldn't even vote.

Cuh, we've been through this, it's because men are better than women.

I agree, I would have preferred that as well.

I think the reason is that more women watch the show than men, and I think that most people (heterosexual people anyway) are more likely to give the benefit of the doubt to the opposite sex. Just an attraction thing, I think. Unpleasant women are victimised straight away, whereas unpleasant men can get away with it for a bit. I would have liked a real alpha-male to be evicted in Week 1 by public vote.

Sadly too late for you to edit this homophobic comment....

Though it still kind of doesn't count because it wasn't a normal eviction in any sense. When they open the phone lines it will definitely be a girl that goes.

Something people don't think about is BB could easily have engineered the first evictee to be male on loads of series' they've done, if they had wanted to. All they needed to do was make sure just men were up. However, they won't ever do that because they probably get a LOT more votes from evictions when women are up.
