Feeling a little bit sad about BB right now.
OK so we are 1 day into a new series and as launch nights go it was far from the worst.
We have a new batch of housemates and they look like a reasonable selection - a bit predictable and generic but again we have seen worse. So why the general feeling of downbeatness that is with me at the moment? It comes mainly from reading this forum - there is no real excitement about the series. BB now seems to be something that is happening by the numbers. We are all coming across as a bit jaded and wearing seen it all before hats. We now seem to have gone past the point of wondering about the integrity of the show and now just accept that it is all fixed and discuss from that standpoint. When you think of how BB was talked about in its hayday that is really quite dispiriting. The phrase 'jumped the shark' is in my mind right now. But heyho I will stick with it and await the first twist that will shake the house to the core and change it forever - which should be along sometime around Friday.

There's nowt much to talk about once the buzz wears off, as there is no live feed during the day, if you don't count those vague tweets , so the forum will be a lot quieter until the highlights begin

Didn't people say it jumped the shark around 12 years ago? I've seen that phrase appear 13 times in the last 13 series, we get it. It's not like the early Ch5 days but neither is any reality show on air.
IMO last night was the best launch on Ch5. I have a good feeling about the HMs, what the producers do to ruin it is another question. |

More diverse than last year. Pie Face is a classic contestant. But we all know how early favourites go. Usually the public turn (Wolfie, Pauline etc) or perhaps they leave like Mark from BB12

Jumped the shark doesn't mean what people think it does. I wish they'd Google it.
Aside from BB no longer being a social experiment, it's the same show it always has been. Only it's SO MUCH MORE contrived than it ever was And, I believe, to its detriment!

I do think that this bunch will be great entertainment though - there doesn't seem to be a "Helen" type but we won't know until the drinks flow . |

Despite how bad it was last year, I was absolutely determined to go into this with an open mind. I was thinking, you know, 'New series, clean slate,' and in the half hour or so before it started I was actually getting a feeling of excitement about it.
And for the first hour or so, it was really good. I thought the new Housemates were great, and by the time Eileen went in, I was like, 'This is actually shaping up to be a really good series.' But then the twists started. Evicting someone on Launch Night was silly, and all the other things that people got from that game yesterday just irritated me, as did Emma implying the twist on Friday. It seems that again, the producers are doing this because they don't have enough faith in the Housemates to make the show entertaining by themselves, which is the entire point of Big Brother. I actually think that this bunch of Housemates are absolutely capable of being entertaining without the producers throwing twist after twist on them. Big Brother should have more faith in its own show. |

It's not the housemates for me this year, in fact i can't put my finger on it. Although i loved last year, Helen Wood's dominance due to the final pass is maybe having an effect now. Releasing the identities was also a mistake.

Really enjoyed the launch last night.
The only thing that ruins BB for me is this forum, it's just so negative with the same old tripe poured out, yet I can't stop coming back

It's a show I watch but care little about these days.
Once it became clear that, yet again, this series is going to be based around outside information being pumped into the house via the kids playing with their BB apps, I mentally tuned out. The sealed unit approach with no information in is pretty much sacrosanct as a basic of BB. That they have now totally abandoned this and happy send in info in order to cause conflict - just shows how little the concepts of BB are cared about by the production team. So it is hard to get excited about something when the people who are making it don't seem to care about the BB concept. And that is before we start on live feed
