I really think the BSA should honour Paula Tilbrook this weekend. I know it's nice to give it to Anne Kirkbride but Emmerdale have never been awarded in this category. Especially as Paula is leaving Emmerdale this month

At least Paula is alive - surely that's more important than being honoured at a ceremony.

A shame that yet another ED long timer will be denied.

There should be a separate award for those who die while still in a soap.

They can and quite often do bring them back to receive an award the year following their departure.....

I do see your point but there is little they can do when there is an unexpected death of somebody that is equally (i'd argue more with no disrespect to Tilbrook) a Soap legend. They really can't dealy giving it to Kirkbride to next year.

However, technically, Tilbrook's departure will air during the 2015/2016 period for consideration. I know Deardre's funeral will too but it is different when the actor has passed on.

She should be honored whilst still alive. If she pops her clogs it will be to late.

why she is leaving not dead, if they did a goodbye thing for everyone that leaves then the whole awards would just be goodbyes

I wonder if she's annoyed Anne kirkbridge is getting one and not her.

I didn't know she was leaving and to be honest I thought she had already left

The point I made was at least she's lucky to be alive and as another FM said, if they honour everyone who leaves then that's all the ceremony will be.

Disappointed really. I know Annie passed away and Deirdre was a soap legend but I would have liked Paula to at least won it :/

Is that all?
I thought there was going to be a special tribute show?

She's a long serving cast member though so would be honored in the Lifetime Achievement award.

Don't think the OP realises there are two categories: Outstanding Achievement and Lifetime Achievement. The first one is going posthumously to Anne Kirkbride - so there's every chance Paula Tilbrook could be honoured with the other award. Let's just wait and see.

Well firstly Paula has already retired, and her exit will be transmitted less than one week after the ceromy is broadcast. Two people have received the award in the calendar year after their character left, but nothing like twelve months after the event.

Here is a complete list of winners so far:

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT WINNERS

Careers ongoing at time of award

1999 William Roach
2004 Barbara Knox
2005 June Brown
2009 Barbara Windsor
2010 Betty Driver
2013 Adam Woodyat
2014 Helen Worth

Carrers ending/ended at time of award
2003 Dean Sullivan - onscreen until 2nd November 2003
2006 Johnny Briggs - exited 7th April - 1 month earlier
2008 Liz Dawn - exited 18th January - 4 months earlier
2012 Pam St Clement - exited 1st January - 4 months earlier
2007 Wendy Richard - exited 25th December - 5 months earlier
2011 Bill Tarmey - exited 8th November - 6 months earlier

I do see your point but there is little they can do when there is an unexpected death of somebody that is equally (i'd argue more with no disrespect to Tilbrook) a Soap legend. They really can't dealy giving it to Kirkbride to next year.

However, technically, Tilbrook's departure will air during the 2015/2016 period for consideration. I know Deardre's funeral will too but it is different when the actor has passed on.
Johnny Briggs left during the 2006/2007 period for considertion for regular awards, but still got his in 2006, as was entirely sensible. No actor has previously won Lifetime Achievement posthumously. Stan Richards could easily have got it in 2005, as could Clive Hornby in 2009, or indeed Richard Thorp in 2014. Maggie Jones could even have received it in 2010 - these were all years when it was given to an ongoing actor. Actors who have passed on have always had a tribute section rather than an award. Why should Anne Kirkbride be any different? Especially when there is another desrving candidate? I find it highly unlikely that Paula will get the award next year. If it is recorded on Saturday 28th (admittedly that would be the latest date ever, but only by one day), then that would be over a year after her departure. Even if its on in early May really that is way too long after the event. Another factor is Paula's age and seemingly poor health - it's a bt much to even assume she'll definitely be here in a years time.

why she is leaving not dead, if they did a goodbye thing for everyone that leaves then the whole awards would just be goodbyes
That's ridiculous, Paula Tilbrook should not be classed as an "everyone" - she has given 21 years of service to the soap FFS

You might have had a sound theory but here's what's wrong with my list above - William Roach got "Special Achievement" at the first ceremony. It was rested in 2000 and was then given to a behind the scenes person every year from 2001 to 2012 apart from 2003 when it was rested again (as it was again in 2013). "Lifetime Achivement" began in 2003 and continued until 2013. Last year "Lifetime Achievement" was renamed "Outstanding Achievement", and "Special Achievement" was renamed "Oustanding Achievement (Off Screen)". As the BSA Press Release stated: "The recipients of the Outstanding Achievement, Outstanding Achievement: Off Screen and the inaugural Social Impact Award will be announced on the night" I think it's probably safe to assume that what Anne is being given is the de facto Lifetime Achievement.

One thing I'd misremembered when I commented on the article earlier, was that I thought Barbar Windsor got it when she left or had announced her departure. The fact that she got it as an ongoing cast member means it is another cmpletely wasted opportunity to have given the award to Anne or some other more desrving candidate (or they could have started the trend of giving it posthumously - to Clive Hornby as I mentioned earlier). And as Babs got it after only fifteen years, how come Julie Hesmondhalgh didn't get it last year? They make this up as they go along!

If they're saying that a tribute section isn't good enough for Anne Kirkbride, isn't that disrespectful to those who've had to make do with one in previous years, or indeed John Bardon who presumably gets a tribute and nothing else? If they want to change the rules and start dishing them out posthumously I'm not against that - just as long as Paula Tilbrook doesn't have to lose out as a result. The BAFTA's gave out three special awards (Clive James, Jeff Pope and Jon Snow) so The BSA's can give out an extra one too.

Whether you watch Emmerdale, or not - even if you think it's a pile of poo, is it RIGHT and fair that after all these years Emmerdale has not received Lifetime Achievement, and yet a relatively short-term (in comparism to Emmerdale stalwarts like Richard Thorp and Chris Chittel) actress like Barbara Windsor got one while still active in the show, and Adam Woodyat got one while still only 44 years old (and likewise still active)? If they can get it, then it's time for Emmerdale to begin getting it's fair share. Starting with Paula Tilbrook.

What type of character she played is irrelevant, and for what it's worth she was on the longlist for Best Actress in 2006 (in the esteemed company of Charlotte Bellamy who has made the shortlist twice)

It's also worth mentioning that Coronation Street thought her good enough to employ for FIVE different roles stretching back to 1967.

Unnecessary, disrespectful and downright nasty to the actress and her fans.
