I am finding lollipop to be a PITA. You now have to swipe screen first and then swipe a pattern or whatever.
Try using Smart Lock (under Security) - add a few Trusted Places and /or Bluetooth devices. I hardly ever have to enter my pin these days.

when using chrome browser you could switch to alternative site from chrome app. Now each session is seen as a separate item under the previous apps button (little square) which means they all get mixed up with other apps.
In Chrome go to Settings and turn off "Merge tabs and apps" and it'll be back to the old method.

When a call came before, it just took over phone - now you have to kind of select it too answer. I can't see how to set it to old way which I prefer.
Try installing a different Dialler app from the play store - theres many available.

TBH - I prefer the old kit-kat keyboards white keys on black rather than black on white.
in the Google keyboard settings (hold the comma key and then select the cog icon) select Appearance and Layouts and then chose your preferred keyboard theme.
Also, as I mentioned before, icons for apps on sd card do not get remembered on custom screens from stock launcher.
.
This is a known issue, install a different launcher - e.g. Google Now launcher or Nova laucher.

Many thanks for help.

1. chrome settings - worked fine
2. trusted places - better than before.
3. dialler - will try a different one
4. Already worked out about NOVA launcher.

cheers

S'ok. Thanks for the tips in previous posts but I'm neither under or over whelmed...

Have I missed something?

5.1.1 fixes a lot of bugs that were present in the original version of Lollipop.

I upgraded from Kit-Kat. This is the first thing I could go to, never been offered an earlier Lollipop version by EE/Motorola. It's still kinda meh.....

Had a day to play now, it's ok. Tweaked a few bits to my liking and the "Playstation" esque bottom button icons are growing on me.

The stock messenger app for SMS seems a bit slow now though - any thoughts as to an alternative?

Moto G 4G 1st gen was only offered Lollipop with 5.1 - the 3G version had the buggier 5.0 and 5.0.1 releases.

Hate this version.

Can't switch to vibrate or silent by just pushing power button!
Swiping up to unlock or open an app? Odd.
Half of my digital clock has disappeared. 01:??
Email client feels unresponsive when trying to get messages from the server.
Do I really need who the owner of the phone is in the top right hand corner? Why would you want to add a guest - bloatware.
The battery runs down faster too!

Rubbish how do I go back to 4.4?

Only good points I see are:

1. trusted places mean I do not have to use swipe pattern as much.

2. the annoying kitkat restrictions on writing to sd card have been relaxed a bit.

re. silent mode, intall silent mode widget, and you csn toggle between silent, vibrate or normal. Not easy to revert to kitkat.

Occasionally mine will do the "optimizing applications" loop on a cold boot, as I have lots of apps installed it means the phone can take over 15 minutes to start up. Has happened twice in the last week to me. At other times it starts up normally.

I've disabled the Motorola update services App on my Moto G, more than happy with 4.4.4 kitkat just now.

I gave in, curiosity got the better of me. Preferred kitkat tbh, not keen on the white/aqua coloured settings menu, battery seems to reduce quicker & if you accidentally touch google search whilst not connected to mobile data or wifi an annoying message pops up informing that you ain't connected. This message only disappears if you switch phone off and on again.
Textra app is great though. Thanks 👍

Updated my Moto G last weekend.

It's been a great phone up to now but next to useless after this "update". Wished I'd never bothered and stuck to KitKat instead.

Phone unresponsive, slow, battery drain horrendous, handset gets hot.

Will be doing a factory reset as soon as I can backup all essential data. (Most already backed up on my Google account but some recent items mysteriously not made it!)

Do you have a lot of photos/videos on the phone? After doing an update, you can sometimes find it takes a long time to rebuild thumbnail caches and the like - so it settles after a day or two.

(Edit: I read you did it last weekend so that's perhaps not it!)

Thanks jonmorris for your reply. Sorry I've only just caught up with this thread again.

Funnily enough, since my posting my phone has actually settled down, and the photos mysteriously missing from my linked Google account have now appeared.

Although the phone's clock was showing a time of 23:12 (?) when I got up on Friday morning, since then everything has worked fine. The battery drain and hot handset issues also seem to have gone away, so fingers crossed it's sorted itself out.

All that trying to re-boot in recovery mode whilst on the phone to my network's tech support, looking at a picture of a dead robot on my screen, must have eventually worked after all!

Camera light keeps coming on when locked in pocket! Causing numerous embarrassing situations. Need to lock the screen properly with a code or pattern.

Still only half a digital clock.

I thoroughly recommend the flip cover for the Moto G. Not sure how much they cost these days, but I think they're great.

Can you believe it! Thought I would turn off and switch back on to see if it picked up. Found a couple of app updates including the motorola update one, once updated it picked up the firmware update!

Material Design, Sleep timer, Recording, tuner usability improvements and user settings enhancements. (This application has been designed to work on Motorola phones with an enabled FM chipset and running Android 5.x, Lollipop).

Will record FM radio but only in mono. Good update.
