pop email access using gprs on o2 pay & go
I'm a fairly happy o2 user but I believe that, as a lowly online pay & go customer, o2 doesn't allow pop email access using gprs. Does anyone know if there is any way round this (apart from moving network - virgin works fine - or taking a contract)? Cheers

Virgin don't support it, do they?
What pop3 provider are you trying to use with o2 - I use to download Freeserve pop3 when I was on o2 contract, and do so now on vodafone pay and go |

O2 doesn't support Mobile Web over GPRS on PAYG. It won't work with WAP over GPRS on O2 either. Although Virgin doesn't officially support it, it does work but is a bit pricey.
However, you should be able to receive your emails using pop3 over dial-up wap on O2, but you won't be able to send. The only way around it is to use a proxy server that will work over a wap gateway. This is fairly straightforward if you have something like Opera on a Series 60 handset but would be difficult on a non-smartphone. Last edited by prking : 06-04-2005 at 18:13. Reason: Extra Info |

DOnt know about pay as you go but it works fine with o2 pay monthly with o2 email, never go it to work with anyone else email.

Have done a bit more browsing. Have tried http://mail2web.com/wap/ and this works really well albeit it doesn't download the emails to the phone - but very easy access and o2 gives 1MB free wap so a cheap option.

I dont know much about pop3 and all the technical terms, being a techno-dunce, but I do have my o2 email on my 6600, and as far as i can gather it's pop3. Let me know if you want the settings. I'm payg if that makes a difference...
