I have heard that most appliances, such as microwaves are actually built to last 7-10 years. So, If you got 8 years, you are doing well. Even if It seems to work perfectly well after so many years, because of its age, the oven could be dangerous and should be thrown out. The screen or rubber seals around the door may have perished and it may lead to radiation leaks. If they are focused on the eye, it can cause cataracts to form. Microwave radiation has also been found to cause Leukemia and other forms of cancer. So, it's better to avoid that old microwave and buy a new one. I have stopped using my 10-year-old oven since last year and bought a new one from 'Best Brand Appliance', Canada ( http://www.bestbrandappliance.ca/ ).

I don't think there is a rubber seal around the door. I've never seen one on mine or anybody else's microwave

Well, they say that a lot of couples who struggle to conceive have, in fact, been made sterile by malfunctioning microwaves (and well as baths that are too hot and pants that are too tight).

probably because its not longer working? what a stupid question!
regards pearl You can get a new one for around £30 (I'm sure you can't get one for a tenner), but be aware that the cheapest ones will only be about 700 watts (not that this makes a noticeable difference) and will only have a clockwork timer. Aldi and Lidl do some very good ones at very good prices and I still have my 1000 watt Aldi one, complete with conventional oven and grill, that I bought about 15 years ago. I must admit that I hardly ever use the oven and grill facilities, but it's stainless steel and very well built. I think they usually sell for around £60. |

Fully agree with the above post. Mine's been misbehaving for a while now, getting gradually worse and in the end I just took it down to the recycling depot.
Bought a new silvery 800 watt one, 20 litres, for £49.99 from Currys, fully digital control panel, works a treat. Dunno why we are discussing this nearly a year after the O/P though. Dredged up by a new member, 1 post, hmm... shoulda spotted that a mile off! |
