Hi All,

wasn't sure where to put this as there was no general gadget section but basically looking for advise on compact cameras, currently have a bridged camera and me and the mrs go to concerts and we've been lending a friends Sony HX50 which doesn't seem to handle indoor concerts very well the focus is just hard to work with.

Does anyone have recommendations for compacts to take to concerts indoors?

Whilst we await the 'why don't you just watch the concert' type post I would say to have a look at some of the compact system cameras as they will have better lenses that will work better in the bad lighting you get at concerts

you can enjoy a concert whilst taking pictures

I would look at the compact systems but it's the faffing with the lens I prefer an all in one and I get that probably would get better results but I just want to pull out and snap really

Without going for a bulkier bridge camera i think you would struggle to get any better pictures than you are already getting from your camera. Concerts aren't ideal places to take pictures .

Compacts range in price from under £50 to absolute fortunes. So without a budget any recommendation is pointless. Similarly there may be specific features besides low light shooting that you think are important too, but we don't know about those so it's not practical to start firing recommendations over. There are plenty of photography mags and web sites doing reviews which include actual shots from the cameras in a variety of challenging lighting conditions. Have you had a look at any of those?

As some general points, I'd be looking for a camera with a fast lens and a good sized sensor. You're probably also looking for something with a decent range of manual controls: Stage lighting can play havoc with auto exposure. A lens that can be focussed easily by hand would be useful too.

I don't have a particular budget as I can always save up just after general advise I don't want cheap and nothing too expensive really
