I could not help but wonder if "Anita" was reduced, due to wanting to get her back into use, and away from Merlins gang of too humanoid synths.

I agree this is very, very annoying.
I now realise how annoying it is when a book is adapted for TV and I go on about how much better the book is. My apologies to all who read the Poldark thread. I won't do it again. ![]() |

Because he obviously fancied her from the outset and the sales guy realised this aswell which is why he caught up with him and gave him the 'extra' material. And the fact that he wants to s**g a robot would be a pretty good reason. I didn't pick up it was him trying to hide it from his son- I thought it was because he wants to have a go. That's why I thought it was a bit cringeworthy.
Interesting insight into your mind I'd say. |

I don't understand why either would be considered annoying. Surely quite natural to compare Show and Book, or 2 versions of the Show, on a thread devoted to the show.

I will definitely be watching this drama. The first episode was interesting. Very good production as well.

Hopefully we'll get some background to the Synth building/creation process as currently some of the reasoning behind their construction just doesn't make sense. I know we got a throw-away line about "Anita" only costing about as much as a car - but thats a 'hand wave' really - what sort of car? a new Focus? a Bentley? a third hand astra?
Where are the bargain basement models? Surely something like "sex organs" would be an optional extra? I assume they are meant to be bio-mechanical rather that pure machine? |

Oh the irony........there was one post (by me) wondering if anyone else who had seen the original felt similar to me about the remake...........now if you have nothing better to do go count how many posts there have been moaning about people posting about the original..................................

Does anyone think that Anita taking the daughter away is part of a dream she was having?

... A scene where he's reading the manual, finds the CD marked "18+ Adults Only", pointedly glances at his son and hides the disc? ...

Overall, an interesting episode. Very creepy at points and Gemma Chan plays Anita brilliantly. The husband shoving the Adults Only 18+ info about Synths in his back pocket made me cringe but everything else was great. Roll on next week.
![]() totally agree about Gemma Chan - she is utterly brilliant as Anita - I had to remind myself that Anita was being played by a person as times - very robot like indeed |

No it's not. This is a forum for anyone and everyone that watches TV and wants to discuss a programme, not just those that consider themselves to have "a strong interest and knowledge of TV"
All I meant was that people who bother to comment on this thread and forum are (a) more likely to have watched the Swedish version in the first place and (b) likely to have an opinion about how the 2 compare. |

And one of the things that many people would naturally want to discuss about it is how it compares to another version.

BiB - no, really not. The majority of people posting on this thread are not likely to have seen the bl***y Swedish version, but they are likely to have seen ep. 1 of the UK version. A small proportion of the posters have seen the bSv, and boy don't we know about it! |

As to the two points that you are trying to make, there is no corroborative proof about those one way or another is there? |

Did anyone else think that the rogue cyborgs were being portrayed as being a bit too human? Especially the one in the brothel where she was talking to Colin Morgan in a way that was exactly like a human complete with the speech patterns and illogical behaviour. The human personality is an extremely complex thing and there's no way that any programme or AI could replicate it in that way.

I wonder why the synths are sexualised anyway? In terms of having sex organs, I mean. If they were merely work drones surely they would not be, except for maybe a few specialised ones for the sex industry. Just as I presume they don't have digestive systems, or urinary systems. Why would they?
Are the males equipped for action? If so, no wonder the bloke from the shop looked a bit askance at his wife and her masseur. The synths in the brothel were clearly all 'equipped' otherwise what use would they be. The husband was hiding information on an upgrade for Anita called 18+ for adults, so I guess fully functioning sexual synths are already a fact of life. Best not to pick holes in the thing, just enjoy it for the sci-fi that it is! |

My first though was, what with the 'dream' imagery of being in a sinking car, Anita was trying to protect her. Maybe the dream is actually a flashback. Do traumatic experiences 'switch on' synth humanity? Quote:
I think you'll find the Colin Morgan character is also a synth, albeit a later generation version, in which case they would appear to act 'normally' when together (nothing to hide, you see).

Watched it for a second time last night and was really struck by the excellent robotic acting of Will Tudor as Odi .. I hope he manages to avoid being scrapped too early in the story!
Whether it's a continuity error or what, but during the breakfast scene I noticed that Laura wasn't wearing any rings on her left hand .. these would have included both her engagement and her wedding ring, both of which are clearly visible in numerous other scenes. Why would she have removed them to go to bed, but failed to replace them before coming down to breakfast? In fact, why would she have removed them at all? |

My comment was that the forum is for everyone to make comment that includes those that are casual viewers and those that want to look at the subject more in-depth not just those that consider themselves to have "a strong interest and knowledge of TV" as you put it.

That's the impression I got.
My first though was, what with the 'dream' imagery of being in a sinking car, Anita was trying to protect her. Maybe the dream is actually a flashback. Do traumatic experiences 'switch on' synth humanity? I thought you see him bleeding, blood, not bio-electric gel. Unless the later gen models have red bio gel? I thought from minute one that the Colin Morgan character was an real human, as he looked scruffy and unshaven, and as we saw later was bleeding. As to "Anita's" flashbacks, I hope they don't drag the answer to them for too long and we find out her back story. Oh, and as to the show itself, I loved it..... OMG!, a C4 drama I like, I will have to have a cold shower tonight to get over the shock......

Well there is because, as you keep pointing out yourself, a lot of commenters have (a) seen the Swedish version and (b) commented on the differences between them.
