So if John Hurt is playing the "Woz" role have we met the "Jobs" character yet?

Surely it is William Hurt!

John Hurt is not in this show. I have never heard of any Woz or Jobs character.

I think "Jobs" and "Woz" are Apple references, however im not a Apple groupie so im not 100% sure

Sorry, William not John and yes I was commentating on the parallels with the rise of Apple and the comparative contributions and roles of the two main men.

It was kind of lost in all the other stuff that happened in ep 1 but it's worth remembering that Anita wasn't actually supposed to be the family's synth, she swapped places with the chosen synth back at the factory so whatever memory wipe happened prior to that, she definitely still has, and exercises, her free will.

I was totally not expecting Leo to be part synth, I was convinced he was human. I'm really enjoying the series. What will be next for Anita if she actually does get returned, I was half expecting her to do a runner when Laura said she was taking her back!

Yeah. Surely it would be easier to escape from the family home rather than the factory. She's already shown that she can sneak out at will. Must be something back there she's after.

Head Teacher is played by Beverley Hills, sorry if anyone already pointed that out, but it tickled me.

If it was co-inventors of the synth technology like you say, with the William Hurt character having lost out to a more successful partner, then..........
Spoiler
the other guy is dead, it is Leos father

Yes she did, although she mentioned it in passing.

@will_be is that a spoiler since the episode has aired?

From what we've seen the synths appear to have been created by 2 people with the name of one starting with E being the main one since he's referenced in conversations and in the articles in the programmes title sequence. We found out the William Hurt's character also had a hand in the last episode.

As for Anita I don't remember any sequence showing her swapping places. We only see her look up at the moon via a skylight. I think she has had a memory wipe but her underlying programming means she's more sentient.

I don't think it has said conclusively in last episode what I put in spoiler, but the guy was so interested in who the other partner was (he was calling him Jobs), I put it in spoiler in case other people hadn't worked that out yet.

Is it bad that I recognised her as Postie from Bear Behaving Badly?

I crumbled and am on ep9 of the Swedish original. Really really good. I'll be very happy if Humans is as good as this. It's 2 more episodes but I'm not sure what they could cut out if the shorter UK run

I don't remember that bit either.

I just re-watched and she only looks up at the moon, I didn't see any places being swapped unless that's shown as a flashback somewhere else that I don't remember seeing.

And having looked back at ep1 I'm thinking this whole thing is about Laura and Anita because the "something doesn't quite fit" label could apply to both of them, though there's always the possibility of over-interpreting 'stressed parent'.

Where are you watching it? Is there a DVD?

I'm struggling to watch Ep 2 (of C4). I'm watching a few bits here and there on 4od but it's rather lost me. I haven't picked up the characters names, which posters on here obviously have done (who is Leo?) so maybe it's just not for me but I'd be interested to see the other version if it's one somewhere just to see what it's like.

I was a bit suspicious when he was making his escape from the building and just rolled off the balcony, only to be perfectly caught by Max. Were they communicating???

Blimey! That's a bit obtuse for a simple thread such as this, isn't it?

Are you absolutely sure about that?

The first we see of Anita is in the wide shot in the factory at night, as the camera zooms in on the back of her and she slowly turns to stare at the moon through the factory skylight. The next we see of her is when she's being wheeled towards Joe Hawkins, all zipped up in a translucent body bag.

Explain please where you think the switch could have occurred?

I was absolutely convinced she swapped places, and it was only after people on here questioned it that I started to doubt. I watched again and of course no it never happened. I think on first viewing I was seeing a synth in the bag the guy rolled through the warehouse at the very start but when I watched more closely there was none. After that I was too ashamed to come back on here, but I'm sorry for any confusion

Amazon have a couple of versions, but from the reviewer comments I gathered that one had no English subtitles, and the other was Region 1 format (N. America) with import duties to pay.

I think the primary delivery vehicle to date has been streaming services.

Either way, I'm sticking with the UK version.

Great series, one of my TV highlights of the year so far.

However, I do get irritated by comments by cast and production team members who claim that it's not science fiction. It most definitely is. It about people coping with changing technology and the related social/moral issues. It asks the question can a machine be more than a machine? All classic genre themes, and ground covered by the likes of Asimov and Phillip K Dick.

Right, rant over. Had to get that out of my system. Time to take the dog for a walk
