Well I guess that's directed at me - the alternative was for me to say:

This show had a lot of potential but it wasn't realised. Its a bit flat and a lot of the themes I feel they should easily have been touching on they haven't. Point in fact this show is actually quite boring and I'm still not sure what the overall 'point' of the show is.

It seems pretty unfocused which is strange because really there isn't a lot going on.

Now to me that all sounds pretty inflammatory - and probably a lot of people wouldn't agree, the reason for my point of view is knowledge of the source material. Hence maybe I'm dissapointed where others might not be.

In all honesty you sound a bit of a jerk and so I'm unsubscribing from this thread - because I can't be arsed to answer anymore to some self proclaimed thread king

I really hate it when announcers interrupt emotional endings like that, breaking the mood.

Don't go, Mr C has rarely contributed to this thread, mainly to just b1tch about people who have mentioned the ORIGINAL Swedish version, and for those who have seen both, it's understandable to comment on both. You've not spoiled any plots, just offered opinions based on both series, which as someone who's only seen UK Humans appreciate. I've been interested on how the series compare and I like reading your comments, so don't go because some troll who moans made you feel bad.

I don't think it's boring, or unfocussed. Must just be your personal opinion that you're confusing with fact. You don't think there's a lot going on?! Jesus H Christ. It's RICH with thought provoking issues, not to mention at least three different story strands all of which are paying off.

For me, this has been the best UK drama I've seen on since Utopia. I love the story, I love the layers, I love how it doesn't hold your hand, I love how it makes you think it through for yourself.

Perhaps all of these things were the problem for you. Oh no, I forgot, it's because you're a fancy pants that saw the original series and refused to let this version of it live it's own life and go it's own way.

I shall watch the 'original'. It better be ****ING AMAZING or else I'll know you're just a TV snob, who unsubscwibes fwom thweads where people don't agwee wiv yuuuuuuu

A second series looks likely, according to DS. I think that would be good, but I don't want this season to end on a big cliffhanger, that would really annoy me.

having looked online for the Sweedish version, that show has a second series, and whilst ive not read too much (spoilers) that suggests that, C4 / AMC wont have to be making up new stuff for the series.

Well I enjoy reading what you say because I haven't seen the Swedish version. I'm quite happy with anyone making any comparisons. I find those sorts of posts interesting to read. Your opinions are welcome as far as I'm concerned. I might enjoy the series more than you do, but it would be a pretty shit thread if I only wanted to read comments from everybody who agreed with me.
In fact any comparisons with the original are useful to me because it makes me want to watch the original as well. I might end up liking both and seeing the weaknesses and strengths of both series on their own merits.

I wonder why they didn't just go ahead and show the original Swedish version just like they did with the zombie drama 'The Returned'?
Weren't the ratings for 'The Returned' very good?

We watch all dramas from all channels on Sky's On Demand service. No ads, no continuity announcers and in HD (which only the Web based Iplayer has).

I have lost patience with Anita's tedious family so FF passed those bits, which has improved the series enormously.

Not wanting to join either extreme of whining or butt-snorkeling and to be true to my own self, righteous sarcasm is the path I shall take as I heartily compliment the various magnificent viewing achievements of others when I have clearly been so culturally impoverished by my own inaction.

Though quite frankly you're all useless because this is nothing compared to the real original that the so-called 'swedish original' was based on - produced in 1973 in Hong Kong with triple-language subtitles because it was darker grittier and edgier than the rest of you put together. And I've seen series 3. It had brass knobs on. So ner.

I'm really enjoying this series; but I'm a bit puzzled by the Hobb character. He seems to be slightly in awe of the synths but I can't figure out whether he's trying to help them, or capture them or has some agenda of his own where he wants to use them for his own purpose - or maybe his motivations are meant to be unclear.

dont know ratings ratings for the Returned, however im sure given the choice between an English and a foreign language version of something, British will choose the later.

Meanwhile given the nearly all British cast, I think C4 can count this as UK drama, should they need to do something like that.

You have to remember this is being sold to a US audience as well. I don't think Euro-Noir has had anywhere near the success over there compared to here and I suspect that is what established a tolerance for subtitles on the small screen here

They're still remaking Australian shows with the right accents - so this is baby steps in getting them to accept a bit of proper English like wot we speak Probably based on the fact that all their sci-fi geeks now watch Doctor Who

Yep, AMC cable network in the US is showing "Humans" two weeks behind us.
That is why anyone waiting to see a repeat of the series on a TV screen, rather than a computer monitor or laptop will be waiting a long time.

Very happy Channel 4 did their own version, as I think all the nudity in the Swedish version is a bit old hat now given what level of depravity is available online.
And yes, the Americans will not read subtitles, too difficult while they are cleaning their machine guns I guess.

Have heard the ratings are massive, 4 million or more tuning in. That should help secure Channel 4's finances, ad slots for that kind of audience on Sunday primetime will be expensive.

Humans has just premiered in the United Arab Emirates and there's an interesting interview with writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley here which makes very interesting reading.

^^ From the link: "Are they really going to put the brakes on this research?’ That seems like something that has never happened before in the history of scientific *development." Actually some scientific research has been restricted. Anything experimenting on humans has to go through ethical scrutiny, and experiments on genetically modified organisms have to be conducted with care that you don't wipe out the human race. AI research would similarly be restricted, if ever it got close to either (a) being a genuine danger to humans, or (b) the suffering of the AI itself became an ethical issue.

I don't think he's trying to capture or help them as a motivator in itself. I think he's in awe of the science that humans have created and wants to understand it. For that to happen he has to convince everyone, including himself, that it's possible for the synths to exist without being a threat to humanity. But he also knows the reality is that they are dangerous. I missed this when I posted after watching the episode once but on a rewatch I picked up that he says to Fred 'you could crack me like a twig' or something like that - might be 'you could crack my neck like a twig' just before Fred puts his arm through the door. It makes Fred's point about the creator underestimating the synths even more significant. Kind of be careful what you wish for... . If they all went rampaging like Niska it's game over.

Well, publicly they say it's restricted. Behind closed doors all this stuff will be being thoroughly researched and tested by military and private research groups.

For various meanings of 'premered in' - not being familiar with how things work in that part of the world with greater distances and sparser populations I should not have been surprised to see this was a streaming service rather than broadcast. Can't find out anything else because their website won;t tell me anything at all aboout themselves because I'm not in the US or in a US territory, which I'm sure the UAE are dead chuffed to have now become!

I had been hoping for some insight as to which parts ended up in the censor's bin (or how such a thing is avoided) given the number of potential offendees* given the business, politics and cultural aspects of the region. Specifics already discussed ad nauseam in GD and Politics so maybe that's a good thing...

Oh right I didn't realise that was a secret if it's on Twitter. Seems a bit silly for someone to say there is something on Twitter but not what it says.

Edit: forget it - I've just seen you can google without being on Twitter.
