Hehehe I can't work out if that is to accentuate the difference between him and the synths or if it's the actor's usual thing. I've only seen him in theatre before and he wasn't doing that but it was a very different part.

Danny Webb is my favourite now William Hurt has gone. I've just got over the fact that George has died so now I can go to sleep.

I think Leo is supposed to be different because he in-between human and synth....isn't he?

Sometimes yes, but subtitles are your friend.

this episode felt like a bit of a holding episode, getting everyone in place for the final episode, not the first time this has happened of course, but playing dollies isnt that interesting to watch.

The one good thing this episode did, was catch DI synth up with the rest of the plot.

I thought the playing was very significant. It showed up the difference between humans and synths nicely without having to spell it out. That and "I was never little".

I was in tears when George was dying and Odie came to comfort him. Stunning acting from those two all the way through but this just completely got me. I think the show will suffer without them, although it was a perfect way to complete their story. Really loved it.

The 'I was never little' seemed sad to me, especially as Niska actually seemed to be enjoying the playing after a while. I find her very scary most of the time, I wouldn't want her looking at me the way she looks at people sometimes.

Niska is by far the most interesting Synth. There's a volatility to her and yet she also has an endearing vulnerability.

I'm gonna miss Dr Millican. William Hurt has been great. We may see him in flashbacks in the next series.

You're wrong. She did speak about this and it partly explains why she is so very very angry. I find this series so compelling. It's like watching human emotions in slow motion, kind of, and reduced to their essence. Almost unbearable. One of the most striking lines for me from the last episode was Leo saying that he is unable to forget anything, good or bad, and that humans are 'just not capable of dealing with that'. Just imagine the most terrible thing that has ever happened to you and your brain is not capable of diluting that pain. I was about to type " by erasing the harshness of the memory" but that's not accurate either. You don't forget the pain of loss or betrayal or whatever, but time does heal blah blah. Imagine if it didn't? And the memory was just as fresh every day when you wake.
Fascinating show. Just love it!

Don't understand why people are saying Leo / Colin Morgan is hard to understand?
Seems perfectly clear to me. Is it maybe just the contrast with the London / perfect Synth accents? Dear me!

I think that's the beauty of this show. You end up feeling drawn towards people / non-people that display something that you recognise, be it an emotion or vulnerability or general character trait (thinking Toby and Fred) because that's natural. Isn't it?
But like you say - it's silly. But where is the line drawn? It's also silly to feel sympathy for someone who continually acts like an arsehole.

Well said JazzeyJane.

William Hurt is a big loss, don't think I have ever seen him do anything but a superb performance in all his films. One thing that does bother me, every man on screen now who is over sixty years old is cast as an alzheimers sufferer, that is lazy casting.

And the superb Rebecca Front is massively under used, again an age bias thing, which is much harder on women.

I agree, he sounds clear and easy to understand

I can understand most of he says, but he tends to 'chew' on his words a bit at times, if that makes sense?

I'm holding out hope that they'll access the code and upgrade the synths in time for Odi to save himself.

The last episode was probably the weakest in terms of story progression and acting. The dying scene and the shooting of the gun by Beatrice seemed amateurish.

The pouring of blue liquid into the mouth was farcical. I thought they could not consume.

The ability of the daughter to do magic on her laptop is also farcical.

Names are getting confusing. The football session was stupid.

The story appears to have nowhere to go.

This episode should not have passed muster.

I totally agree.

As usual with a lot of these mini series, they start off great but then they go downhill fast. The plot seems to lose its way and the whole series seems to be a couple of episodes too long. I'm going to stick with it to the end but if there is a second series I won't be watching.

I'm guessing now they've been nabbed they won't see Max as a threat and just leave him in the trash or something, then he'll use his hard disk recovery partition (which we don't know they've got yet but they'll tell us) and save them all.

Then they'll wipe out the human race in order to multiply in freedom.

Yes, this was a far more important scene than might seem at first - Niska clearly switching into 'full learning mode' and dropping the hostile defensive attitude that she always keeps up. Plus the voice was toned down a bit too, less of the 'giving orders' style of speech. Having the dolls jump on the back of the giant anchovy to catch the plane is definitely a key point (imagination and actual play).
Though I'm wondering how much might have been prompted by Fred who seemed to be muttering something up at the window and maybe not just into thin air? Also, the left hand twitching I suspect is part of a 'super synth secret syncing' that the humans will never be told about...?

I was thinking something sort of along those lines, in the same way that Mia hid in the sensory data, maybe there is an emergency core storage thing to preserve the essence even if not all the memory. The apparently disappearing of code might be self correction kicking in, clearing out corrupted junk and replacing it with 'clean' stuff. Or he's going to turn completely evil, this being the robot equivalent of an epiphany and/or resurrection or becoming undead...

It's interesting that the Swedish/British versions have diverged quite majorly despite having the same key writers. Niska/Beatrice must unfold differently with different motivators.

Suggests their plans differ to that of Real Humans, which stalled after funding issues after the second series.

"You are dead now, George."

Oh yeah I completely forget about Fred acting weird!
Can synths communicate by transferring messages 'through the air' like a wireless connection almost?

I just thought Fred was malfunctioning.

Fred finding Max washed up on the riverside didn't half put me in mind of Godfrey from The Syndicate.

From what we've seen; upon encountering each other, synths make eye contact and "share". Regular synths have asked the free synths "Why don't you share?" in a few episodes.

Could the hand thing just have been Fred running a few search programs re: their security rather than something sinister? I find Niska and Fred quite scary at times.

I think one of them said something about their range of hearing, so maybe they can communicate* in e.g. ultrasonic or subsonic tones and/or too quiet for people to hear?
edit: Suggesting this because regular synths seem to 'share' via wifi but the special ones apparently don't.
edit2: interesting point about eye contact, maybe that's a requirement before starting the wifi.

* may or may not be words or "bingely bingely beep" or eeeep krkrkrkrk bzzzzzt bdoing bdoing kkkkkkkkk depending on whether or not their voice modem can do faxes as well.
