not sure ive ever heard that London is expensive to shoot in, is it actually London? saying that im not sure where that £2 million goes, no CGI, minimum stunts, the synths dont require alot of make up, the cast is on the large side, but there are few guest cast, and even fewer extras. Locations are also multiple times.

I know the cost of TV, but im surprised to hear the cost of the episodes is so high

It's the lunch break costs, all those gold-plated sausage rolls and chocolate-coated ants' brains (with knitted blue cardigans).

That's my assumption since it's not clear how they were found if not but we might find out in the finale this week.

On another note the BARB Ratings in millions (2nd number is the final ratings after 28 days):
1 HUMANS (SUN 2100) 5.46, 6.1 w/e 14 Jun 2015
1 HUMANS (SUN 2101) 4.45, 5.06 w/e 21 Jun 2015
1 HUMANS (SUN 2101) 3.63, 4.45 w/e 28 Jun 2015
1 HUMANS (SUN 2101) 3.95 w/e 5 Jul 2015
1 HUMANS (SUN 2101) 3.85 w/e 12 Jul 2015
1 HUMANS (SUN 2102) 3.93 w/e 19 Jul 2015

The show's consistently C4's highest rated show for the week.

Very respectable figures. I'm glad its popular, C4 will hopefully be encouraged to make more high quality drama like this. I was worried that after Series 2 of Utopia being so dreadful and Series 3 not being commissioned, C4 would get cold feet.

Still worried they don't have the cash to fund it on their own.

lol, but seriously if anyone is seeing something im not, let me know.

Doctor Who comes in at 1 milllion per episode, a show with CGI and alot of make up, granted its a much smaller cast, but it also needs new sets, every episode.

I guess it must have been quite expensive having to manufacture all of the synths for the show.

Part of it may be the cost of the 'synth school' that they set up to train all the actors playing synths, including extras, on how to move etc as a synth. That must have cost a fortune!

Things I'd like to see in the final episode:

Laura being a lawyer coming into its own; perhaps negotiating with the corporation on behalf of the synths? Sentience would be quite a money-spinner! Perhaps legally defending NIska and/or Karen, or seeking to establish their legal rights as persons.

We find out what Joe's job is - we know he has one, in an office environment, and he hasn't been replaced by a synth, so not simple admin. And that he redeems himself with some heroic act, preferably saving Mia. Also that he transfers his status as primary user to Mia herself; probably symbolic, but a nice gesture.

Mia admitting she was in control during her and Joe's intimacy (lots of hints at the time and subsequently that that was the case). Forced to admit it to stop Niska going postal on him when she finds out what happened! Interesting as to why (same reasons as Karen?).

Hobbs telling Fred that he bugged him and let him think he'd escaped so he'd lead them to all the others, finishing with 'you thought you were superior to us, that's why you underestimated me'! We find out Hobbs is actually interested in immortality; he wants to upload his mind into a synth body.

Pete reaffirming he is still Karen's friend and bringing her down from some desperate act partly by reminding her that she's a police officer - 'and a damn good one at that' - and they protect the community not threaten it. Also bringing the whole sentient synth matter into the public domain by dint of a police raid - on live TV - to release Leo and Joe 'together with their items of property'.

Niska and Karen both submitting themselves to justice. Possible references to Somersett's case. Guilty but sentence suspended subject to probation, community service and residing with trusted adult humans. Sophie as star witness for Niska, who leaves the court and faces the press with her in her arms.

Some other shocking, surprising, tragic and happy events!

I've just seen the trailer for the last episode. I can't remember the last time I was waiting for an ending to a series this much - the last time was probably The Killing or Borgen. I also saw an ad on the side of a bus a couple of weeks ago. Do they normally do that for TV shows? I thought it was more for films.

If they release a DVD with audio commentry I'm not going to be able to resist buying it.

I am now really concerned it will not be renewed for a second series.

The convention in TVland is to renew a slam dunk hit show before the final episode of the current series.

Will be delighted to be flat wrong on this, but Channel 4 have done this kind of weird, senseless cancellation stuff before, they have form.

That sounds like very healthy ratings for a show like this.
Usually with the science fiction type things like this which I like I often read that their ratings turned out to be disappointingly low.

I know that some on here will hate me saying this, but I think its decent ratings are probably more down to the soap opera type family relationship elements to the story (which many of us roll our eyes at) than they are to the concepts of the sci-fi elements (which many of us on here will enjoy).

It's with a heavy heart I say this because I'm comparing 'Humans' with 'Utopia', which didn't fare as well with the ratings, but which I thought was better in many ways.

You're not fooling anyone . It is Channel 4’s biggest hit in 20 years. You have to go back to 1992 to find an episode of a Channel 4 drama had a bigger audience than Humans' peak (The Camomile Lawn)

You should probably find something else to invest your time/energy in. If it's renewed it's renewed if it isn't it isn't. Either way it probably shouldn't be taking up this much of your emotional concern.

The Camomile Lawn was good but somehow not quite as good as it should have been. It relied too much on the sexiness of the young cast and didn't stand the test of time when it was repated somewhere years later.

Someone commented on the eye candy in Humans as a possible reason for it's success - as a 40+ straight woman I'm can't say that's what's keeping me watching.

What elements would be considered the soap opera aspects? I think the 'human' drama is generally what makes a show good, the same applies to something like Game of Thrones; I'm not really sure which bits in 'Humans' would fall specifically under the soapy category.

I think the fact that it incorporates an everyday, contemporary, people next door, type family is probably what it has in common with soaps. Complete with teenage angst and marital problems! Allows the less sci-fi prone viewer to identify more.

I am very happy about a 2nd series but also kind of sad as it means the final episode won't be the wrap-up-answer-questions affair I was expecting.

I guess they knew they were going for a 2nd series when they filmed the final episode as I imagine it'll be a cliffhanger which they surely wouldn't have done if it was a one series show.

yep AMC seem chuffed

“We’re so pleased to announce a second season of Humans,” AMC/Sundance TV original programming president Joel Stillerman said in a statement. “As one of the year’s top new cable series, Humans has been embraced by fans and critics across the U.S. and UK. We’re looking forward to continuing this very captivating story and further exploring the show’s parallel, Synth-filled world that hits so disturbingly close to home.”
