Totally agree. Some of the direction was amateurish. Towards the end the family hanging out with the synths in the park and then the grandiosely named magdalene crypt was embarrassing. The actors did not know which way to look as they were all standing around with very little to do or say. It was like watching a bloody school play with actors waiting for their turn to say their lines.

The final scene with the dad and son playing computer games while the mom walks in looking pensive was buttock clinchingly embarrassing.

For the most part and towards the last 3 episodes it looked like no one had a clue on how to end this malarkey. Poor Gemma Chan was made a bit part and in place was that mumbling idiot of an actor. He had the looks but no charisma or screen presence, unlike Gemma.

All in all a poor 2/5 for the series. It will go down in history on how to kill a series.

Its ok for young adults but not serious TV watchers.

I shouldn't think the makers of the programme would be bothered about that seeing as I enjoyed the series and will watch series 2 and you, who I presume 'got it' in a way you think I didn't, didn't think it was that great.

FWIW (probably nothing) I completely understand the premise but I personally still find the idea of forming a relationship - physical or otherwise - with something that is ultimately built from a code (ie not human) a bit yeuch. Someone asked earlier in the thread about making synths for children and the consensus was that that wouldn't happen because parents hope for the best of their children and sticking them with a synth is a bit like admitting defeat. That's my view of synths in the real world - regardless of whatever arguments are put forward for human-synth relationships in the series. (I can only base my view on the world and my knowledge of people as I have never watched any other sci-fi and am unlikely to.)

Last few episodes were poor, they all get captured at the end of the last episode and then they just get let go

Didn't buy the oldest daughter as a computer whiz either.

Did we? I just gathered that Mia was observing that, as well as everything else, but I don't recall her saying she was in control and had wanted to seduce him. She just said he started hating himself before it was over. (Apparently that made it OK.)

I do wonder how much the bad guy's plan would be upset if the family had gone public with the contents of the laptop. First, I'm not sure it would really prove anything. Second, if the bad guy planned to make and sell sentient synth slaves, everyone would know anyway. Plus I think the bad guy's plan was doomed anyway, as people would reject sentient slaves for ethical reasons.

Most people on here and twitter think the opposite. Started of well and got ridiculously dire at the end.

Anyone know when last nights episode is repeated? I missed it and I can't use the sh*tty On Demand piece of crap with that constant "Watch Next" in my face that won't go away.

I don't know when it's repeated but the 'watch next' doesn't stay there the whole time. Best thing with 4od is to put it on on silent while you are doing something else, then when it gets past the last set of adverts, rewind to the start and you can watch it through without the adverts. Have you put full screen on? That gets rid of watch next for me.

In my opinion it did. Not much happened in the first couple of episodes, took a while for it to get going and when the story finally kicked in it was great.

For various meanings of 'most' - in this case surely meaning 'lots of people whined' rather than necessarily being more than 50% of everyone following/reading/commenting on whatever feed/thread it was. If we discount all the ones containing the word 'swedish' I suspect the total decreases somewhat. On the other hand, all credit to those who hated it and yet stuck with it just to see the ending.

Then again I'm not a 'young adult' by a long stretch, neither I suspect am I a 'serious tv watcher' whatever TF one of those is meant to be.

But yeah, whatever. I enjoyed the series.

That's what I understood - being aware but trapped and not in control meant she could still observe and deduce Joe's state of mind though if she had 'awoken' during 'it' and given her analysis to Joe 'you are hating yourself, would you like to suspend and resume at a later time, yes no cancel?' but I'm not sure that kind of comedy moment would really have worked.

Otherwise, I was a bit disappointed with this episode, lots of loose ends, but then, I guess there needs to be to pave the way for the next series.
Is the Swedish version available dubbed anywhere?

Puterkid: I looked online and was able to establish that the series was sold to 50 countries using mainly sub titles. The French version for the record is dubbed, though Australia was sub titled, so unless Canada, S. Africa, New Zealand or another English speaking country with a decent TV budget has chosen to provide an English dub, the answer is no. As we appreciate UK and USA decided to join forces and re create rather than dub the series.

jackthom: Where did you find series one with English sub titles? I looked and could only find a good copy on the Daily Motion site; but only parts 1,2,3,6 and 10 were available to view using both Akta Manniskor & Real Humans as search tools.
A web link to your source would be v.much appreciated!!

It was Mattie's missing flash drive that Niska had taken to make her secret copy of the code. Until someone tries to use the code on the hard drive Laura was given we will not know for sure if the real info is on it. I suspect it is however as making two copies would be a win-win situation for Niska and she would gain nothing by making the hard drive one a fake.
So having gotten the code onto the computer they were arguing what to do with it and Niska quickly went to the computer, copied the code onto one of Mattie's flash drives, copied (or not) it onto the hard drive, hid the flash drive in her pocket and then said whatever her line was about deleting it from the computer and showed them all the hard drive indicating that she had copied it to that, then gave it to Laura for safe keeping with nobody any the wiser that she also had a copy of the code.

Pretty sure we didn't. We found out last week that Mia was watching (for want of a better term) while Joe had sex with Anita, but she gave no indication that she had control over her actions. What do you think happened this week that showed she did?

Oh well if most people think that (which is doubtful anyway) then the poster should definitely change their personal opinion to be in line with yours.

Oh dear... confusing popular opinion with "right" a very common mistake, I'm surprised a "serious TV watcher" would make a mistake a basic as that. *where is that rolleyes smiley when you need it*

Full series is on vimeo - each episode is split into 4 sections, or clips as they have it. Same picture quality as dailymotion which is okay but not great. Annoyingly it's on youtube in HD but without subs. I'm gonna have a hunt around to see if I can find HD version with subs - if I find one I'll let you know

on the whole i really enjoyed this series, found the first 4 episodes slowly built up the stories and the last 4 took off pretty full pelt action. i don't mind not having everything absolutely clear and resolved and i don't necessarily expect series 2 to tie up any/all loose ends, life isn't like that either!

however i did find the last episode a bit odd - there seemed to be so many 'near misses' in the mind meld stuff that i was expecting something fairly major when it happened. and in the end i wasn't at all sure what it did. their eye colour changed, but what else?

Max was saved, but not fred. so whatever the code for giving full consciousness is, it can bring someone back from brain damaged but not from brain conditioned? and the code got copied for potential future use. was that it?

i will watch it again. and i'll watch series 2. its all good.

I definitely got a vibe from Mattie and Leo, hope they follow that up in S2. ”

I assumed that by leaving the others and taking a flash drive with her she wanted to "take over the world" with conscious synths? Having her smirking in the last scene on the train seemed to portray her dark side, not forgetting the people she slaughtered in the smash club.

I really enjoyed the first half of the series, but It tailed off really badly at the end. Colin Morgan ruined it with his poor acting. 6/10 from me.

They were able to download the code to give any synth consciousness from their brains to the computer.

Yes the code got copied, onto Niska's flash drive and possibly the hard drive that Laura has as well. Then they deleted it from the computer. I'm guessing Fred could not be 'saved' by the code because he already had full consciousness, their problem was that Hobb had written the finding program into his base code. Whereas Max was just loosing all his code due to being brain damaged when he drowned. But I'm not entirely clear why they couldn't delete Fred's bad code and fill in the holes with the special code.

Just depends how you see it I guess, I saw it as a smile, not a smirk showing darkness. I would assume that she plans to use the code, but I don't think she's out to take over the world, she wants enough conscious synths that they can demand their rights and freedoms but it doesn't follow that she automatically wants to rule over humans. Also she didn't slaughter anyone in the smash club, the only person she killed was the pervy man in the brothel.

Yes, I was surprised by Colin Morgan. He seemed so good in Merlin but I really didn't like him in this.
