The Policeman has been investigating a black market in the sale of Synths known as Seraphim.

He intitailly thought these Seraphim were conscious synths but he has now found out they are normal synths in the shape of children.

That child synth had been in the boot of the car the police detective was chasing.

The child synths are being created by the company Athena is working for.
Great thank you. Not feeling this series as much as the last I have to say.

So is the schoolgirl a f***wit who thinks she is a synth?
Is this the first episode of Series Two you've watched?
It was made quite clear what she was doing in her introduction 4 weeks ago and it's been mentioned or allured to in every episode since.
But to answer your question, no, she doesn't think she's a Synth, she knows she's a human but she's just pretending to be a Synth.

I found the child synth a bit disturbing, why would anyone want a child synth when their purpose is to do menial or boring work? It's not like we need children to go up chimneys any more.
Presumably as a substitute for a real child like Haley Joel Osment in AI.

Maybe they're for the Japanese market.

Although that might be too dark a storyline.

I think the Seraphim are designed for people who have lost children, can't have children, benefit from child stimulus (eg old folks' homes - sort of like the dolls they give them, but with more responsivity) etc - but they are of course exactly what the paedo ring ordered, so that's why people are buying them on the black market.

I have been a bit up and down on this series, but thought last night's episode was a good one.

I laughed out loud at the school girl fake Synth 'romancing' with adult mode.

Also we had a bit of Niska kicking ass and some good moments with the Synths (torture implied, DI Voss's speech)

One bizarre thing about this series is I always feel much more 'emotion' from the Synth characters than the humans. I think they are a better acting stock.

More than torture, the victim end up dead in a pond!

It was a much better episode last night compared to the previous one. I did see the child synth twist coming but it's still a pretty chilling concept whichever way you look at it.

I keep losing my thread with it!

Have they done it so as to muddy the waters with there also being actual synth children, as revealed last night?

I only didn't pick up on about 70% of that! Doh, thanks. Must stop watching this when tired/concentrate more - there is a good story in there but I think they are slightly missing with it as I'm not as engaged as I was series 1.

Step away from the nail scissors! (I'm as bad - I've only got to look away for a few seconds or talk to the OH, & have to rewind every time, because something's happened. I even have to rewind actually in the middle of watching it sometimes, in one of my, "Hang on, who's that?" moments! I never know what's going on with their phones - I just go past those bits because otherwise I'd be there forever...)

Maybe the children are some kind of biological synth that is capable of growing up.

I am enjoying this series as much as the 1st series.
Me too.

Glad Mia retuned herself but would have liked to have seen what happened to her after they left her.
Next week, I assume. Wonder if she'll be "hidden" again for a while or was she just 'acting' again? Not sure. (But has to be the latter I guess.)

I'm enjoying it and am not the slightest bit bothered about any inaccuracies or whatever, it's not like it's something we have in real life today so no point in trying to rationalise everything in it.
Exactly. That would only spoil it.

IBut to answer your question, no, she doesn't think she's a Synth, she knows she's a human but she's just pretending to be a Synth.
It was made obvious that it's a 'coping mechanism' for her.

Agree re. 'accuracy'. It's a bit sci-fi so some licence needed.

I couldn't work out whether Mia was pretending to be all synth again or whether she had disconnected something that made her lose her 'humanity'?

Hehe . Humans doesn't nail my attention.... but that could be because I always watch Planet Earth II first, and it wears me out!

I don't think she was pretending - that quick hack job with the smartphone was either a permanent hard reset (unlikely I think) or some cunning simulation thereof on a timer.
That said - betrayed by her lover, about to be taken for experimentation, no way out - does the robot conclude that self-termination is the logical solution, or does the personality override that with the hope that a cunning plan might just work?

With the Hawkins family taking a trip I thought Mia would be walking around, Sophie sees Mia happy as joy seeing Mia again runs up to her holding her and telling her family Mia back.

With Mia back being Anita wondering if Athena will get her hands on Mia and put Trinity into her body.

And there's the most likely answer.

More than torture, the victim end up dead in a canal!

I didn't. I thought that both Athena and the Detective were going to find Mia, and that she wasn't going to be as unique as we were led to believe.

Maybe the children are some kind of biological synth that is capable of growing up.
I doubt that, cause of their internal builds. If anything, replacements would be used each year, simulating growth.

I couldn't work out whether Mia was pretending to be all synth again or whether she had disconnected something that made her lose her 'humanity'?

I don't get why she couldn't just act anyway. It's not as if she hasn't done so before? Unless she needed a reset to pass that test?

I get positively upset when you see humans doing horrible violent things to Synths! The children beating their nanny synth were just learning to be psychopaths IMO. It raises interesting questions about how people might act if they had human-like things they could damage without consequences.

The schoolgirl Synth and the whole Synth identification thing is another idea I appreciate in this show. Trans-Synths would be a bit like furries or otherkin but more socially accepted, because Synths are humanoid.

Athena being played by Carrie-Anne Moss, who also played Trinity in The Matrix, so she's going to plant herself in the robot body or did you mean 'V short for Virginia' i.e. the simulation of her sister...?

Not wanting to be uncivil, but we've already got more than enough dual-identities without creating more!
Beatrice/Karen, Mia/Anita, Sophie/pretend-prototype, Toby's creepy schoolfriend trainee replicant, and no sign of anyone enigmatically advertising a well-known stout.

And we have a direct parallel, 'hey mr wizard, I need a door open' and later maybe 'V' can pervade the rest of the systems, and send out her newly-pwned remote control drones...

I don't get why she couldn't just act anyway. It's not as if she hasn't done so before? Unless she needed a reset to pass that test?
I think it will be because they just plug in and look at the code, and would be able to see if anything was weird or non-standard because the standard base program will always be the same, or from a limited set of known programs for housekeeper, gardener, plumber (there was one that had a barely-competent human YTS?).

I got the name mixed up I thought Athena called V the simulation Trinity. Thank you for the correction on the name

With all the Synths charging them selfs up all the time, if anyone in humans are creating a new power source that can last for years something that won't harm the world, if the Synths got their hands on it won't have to charge them selfs up anymore.

With Niska on the run wonder if she'll ask Astrid to help her or they Astrid to flush Niska out of hiding.

A somewhat selfish motive there, I wanted to limit my own confusion

But people do still have chimneys and a child synth would fit up them so much better than an adult synth.
