I agree. It's one of the few where you feel there's at least the possibility of something unforeseen happening. The child synth at the end of last week's episode was one such surprise, and he's still a creepy little thing now we've got a better look at him. Not exactly the sort of little cherub I'd want in my house.

I was thinking this series wasn't as good as the first, but tonight was gripping. Long may it continue like this!

I can't see that much difference between the first series and this, other than we know things we didn't know the first time around. There are lots of comments about it being slow but the hour always goes very quickly to me.

Also bought the DVD, so there's at least two of us that did! Usually watch it when I am sick and confined to bed, as we no longer have Sky Multiroom and there's only Freeview and the DVD upstairs!

I'm amazed there is a DVD given that DVDs didn't exist when it was on TV and it only lasted one series. The BBC must have retrospectively realised there was an audience for it. I only watched it because of Michael French.

Hester is definitely growing as a human though, killing someone, lying about someone being OK with her killing people, alienating friends, doing stupid things like not checking if a highly-secured area has anything electrified, yes, getting very human!

I know she was brought over to see Niska while she was locked up but I thought that the woman Niska met in the first episode lives in Berlin so how did Niska get back there without being stopped as a fugitive on the run?

I was wondering that, but wasn't sure if we had been shows the outside of concrete German flats or concrete British flats, so either there was 'innate droid cunning' to get there or a number 7 bus with her hat pulled down and her girlfriend was still over here for the case/interrogation.

I've spent the entirety of this series wondering why they haven't fixed Ode's arm.

Still very much enjoying this show. I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some sort of synth virus that affects humans? Sophie is still behaving really strangely and, in spite of the family's efforts to snap her out of it with the bun fight in the kitchen, she still remains a rather troubled little girl.

I'm starting to worry about Mattie too. She has an emotional connection with Leo in spite of knowing that he's half human half synth. I hope she gets back to the house really soon because I don't think it's going to be long before Odi turns rogue.

Niska seems to have managed to evade all efforts to intercept her movements, although it wasn't clear whether she'd managed to locate Astrid in the UK or Berlin. We know that Astrid came to the UK at some point because Laura called her as a surprise witness during Niska's consciousness assessments.

Hester's becoming a liability, isn't she?! I wonder if Max and his little splinter group will sort her out?

Athena is fast approaching melt down, so I think this could all end with the death of Milo and a giant fireball engulfing the entire Qualia organisation!

However, with only two more episodes to go, I can't see there's enough time for a finite conclusion. It would be nice to think that there was some mileage to be had from a third series, but Channel 4 dramas on this scale tend to stop at two. Remember Utopia and The Returned (Les Revenants) .. they finished after two series and left us wanting more, but there really was no more to be had!

Yeah, about that, see it's a hardware problem, we just do software, you'll have to contact the manufacturer about that, it's not going to be under warranty especially if you let it run down far enough to be dumped in a council skip, no the extended warranty probably wouldn't either, look I said I just do software, I can't answer your hardware questions, if the manufacturer isn't around any more then you will have to go to a specialist shop and this looks like a custom job so I wouldn't touch it anyway, there's no way you are going to get replacement parts though I don't know what a custom repair is going to cost but if you ask me it looks like a kinked pipe is blocking the hydraulics, did you try taking the lid off to see if anything looks wrong, I did that with my toaster and the leftover screws from when I put it back together are in a little dish on the kitchen windowsill...

Interesting question though - excused by being a repair problem but mainly I think a big flashing 'this one is still broken' sign for the viewer.

I think someone posted that one of the actors had said that that plan was to have series 3. That was before 2 aired so I presume it will depend on the US ratings.

I got that it's just I find it hard to believe Matty is so good with computers that she can finish the code to make all synths conscious. Fix Ode (he was completely non functioning) before but can't nip the synth dump and get the parts needed to fix his arm. I've yet to meet a computer programmer who couldn't build one with their eyes closed.

Don't get me wrong I'm still enjoying the show and it's not like it's that important it just sticks in my mind from the second I see him.

I have always thought that Humans was really about what the title suggests, the human condition. All of our inequalities, prejudices, ethical, social and cultural issues made into an allegorical story about artificial intelligence.

The Carrie-Anne Moss storyline this series clinched that for me, she is just a mother looking to save her child's mind. The synth research is just incidental to her.

She said something like the code was doing its thing but deliberately slowly so it wouldn't all happen at once and she just faked an extra-fast clock/calendar so it completed itself much quicker.


Point taken, but I think I'd re-iterate my 'flashing sign' remark to go alongside that, with a side-order of him re-gaining self-awareness 'naturally' so he gets a second life now that he's killed his self (as opposed to himself) which would as a result of being the intended process include self-consciousness as well as self-awareness and therefore the desire to self-repair.

I think Mattie's accelerated magic code will turn out to be 'wrong' in some way.

Same here, the robots side of it is an interesting diversion - though obviously that will become more relevant when they turn the tables and enslave the fleshies. That said, I think the immortality (and strength) aspect has been covered as a reason for not going further to make them all conscious? Back in series 1, IIRC.

And I just had to remind myself that of course (and I repeat here for the benefit of anyone else with a crap memory) Odi was special primarily because he was the obsolete home help/carer model (that Rebecca Front as Nurse Blucher had replaced) to Dr George Millican (William Hurt) who had become quite attached and had been using him as a surrogate memory.
