What do you mean?

I wonder why George does not want to upgrade. Surely they can transfer his synth's files into a new robot?

Leo is like a useless Cumberbatch, I mean Assange. I wonder why he does not just go to the Ecuadorian Embassy instead of walking in some woods?

You might be onto something. This is what I predict will happen:

1/ There will be a fight between the "alive" synths and bad humans.
2/ Someone will kill that annoying girl whos going through puberty.
3/ Joe is going to "cheat" on his wife with Anita. Possibly leading to Leo killing him after he learns Joe "raped" his lover.
4/ Coming in from left field, some of the humans could actually be synths. But their eyes do betryal them.

Not all the time though! The greenyness seems to be something relevant to either the mood or the situation. Nothing will be that simple so early in the series .. keep watching!

I got the impression he had developed an emotional attachment to his synth (perhaps regarding him as a "son").

Good spot, I just checked and this did happen.

Either a mistake by the makers or the wife has been subbed for a bot? She is acting very robotic anyway, maybe a big twist from the original and the husband has had her replaced because she was not loving any more.

Yes, definitely this. He associates Odi (I think it was) strongly with his dead wife, and has developed real affection for him. Odi also holds 'memories' of his wife that George is starting to lose, so he needs him. I'm guessing either those personal memories can't be transferred to another synth, or that George is scared of what would happen if they got hold of them.

I thought it was really touching.

Good start to the show. I found the Synths more likeable than the actual humans (minus George and Leo).

I get that while Laura is meant to be asking the questions that the audiences should be asking about the Synths, she just came across as extremely annoying and cold as well. Matilda was pretty awful as well.

Anita is seriously eerie as hell. Great performance from Gemma Chan there.

Classic Pinnochio/Geppeto dynamic with Odi and George. I wanted more scenes with those two. 8/10

Loved it.

The Synths were all rather endearing I thought. Laura was esp. well acted. And Colin Morgan continues to do a very convincing English accent - he's really good at anything he turns his hand to.

I really, really liked this. I thought it had a good balance of realism, unreality, dreamlike scenes and rough, raw grittiness.

Especially poignant was when the elderly gent was about to wallop his young but outdated synth and at the last second he piped up with some memories he regurgitated (either deliberately or not) and the chap just couldn't do it. They weren't even part of the main storyline but they seem just as much a part of it too.

Looking forward to next week.

I do hope they develop some of the human characters better. I think the annoying family could easily be improved, maybe by Matilda actually changing her beliefs about the synths throughtout the series.

Perhaps all the synths will gain "conscience" at the end?

At first I just found Matilda irritating, but towards the end I gained a lot of sympathy for her. Synths are rapidly taking over the workplace, as she said if the only 'safe' careers are for artists and poets what future will the kids have?

True. I hope that the writers are clever enough to write a storyline were Matilda and Anita both learn from each other.

I hadn't noticed the 'Mia' bit so I checked as well and it looked to me like it was dubbed on - or may have been a recorder hiccup, since now on re-play I don't hear 'Mia' at all so obviously it's Them messing with our heads.

Interesting that Laura even though intensely disliking the idea of having one in the house and calling Anita a tin can, pulls up the kids on treating the machine as a slave.

That was exactly what it reminded me of - I remember seeing the film in the guide and mentally flipping a coin as to whether it would be worth watching and it most definitely was!
The attachment makes a lot of sense from being the son he never had (as it were) and his aide-memoire, definitely a close parallel with the film - and to me an entirely believable scenario.

I can see her as a poet

I was hoping that that would be the case but sadly they seem to have made changes that only weaken the impact and confuse the storytelling. There are many threads on DS lambasting Americans for remaking British programmes disastrously and missing the programmes point. This is what C4 (and AMC) appear to be doing here to Real Humans

Looking forward to next week

Overall, an interesting episode. Very creepy at points and Gemma Chan plays Anita brilliantly. The husband shoving the Adults Only 18+ info about Synths in his back pocket made me cringe but everything else was great. Roll on next week.

Humans achieved record numbers for Channel 4 on Sunday night, overnight data reveals.

The new sci-fi series brought in an average audience of 3.45 million (15.6%) at 9pm, with an added 586,000 (3.7%) on +1. This is the highest-rated launch of an original drama series on Channel 4 since records began in 2002.

I think she meant that more in terms of she wanted the kids to pull their weight with chores, etc., rather than relying on Anita to do everything for them, but also was an indication of her discomfort with having Anita around and not knowing exactly how to be with her. After all, she didn't want a robot in the first place.

Can somebody tell me what it was that Laura was looking at wistfully and hiding from her suitcase, my Demand4 froze for a second when that bit came on

It was a photo album 'me and mum at the beach' was one picture I think, I might be reading too much into it but there was that scene with the faulty synth looking at one...

Fair point about the slave remark, though it seemed to me to be somewhat protective but that I guess is complicated by Laura trying to make sure she doesn't get obsoleted, e.g. as you say telling the kids to do their bit.

I really annoys me when people do this, use some words not a link to a picture, article or video, if you want to quote something relevant, cut n paste it with a link to the original piece.
I hate these random links and don't click them, gives me the irrit.
Type some words with the keyboard and hit submit or just keep schtum if you're too lazy to do that IMO.

Anyway it was interesting enough show, don't know why Matilda and Katherine Parkinson's characters were so horrible, although the latter's character just seemed to be struggling generally.
Matilda needed a good kick in the hole.
I don't need to like characters to watch them, but those two were just a bit too much for me, I'll keep watching though.
