Oh i gotta disagree about Dollar !
And Flying Lizard's version of Money was a hit in August 1979 in the UK . .. but it is a underrated classic. IMO

Whoops! I stand corrected, about the date of the Flying Lizards' number Not about Dollar's shiteness - I stand by that opinion

Pass the Dutchie by Musical Youth was a cover of a reggae song song originally called Pass The Kutchie (meaning a joint) changed to Pass the Dutchie (meaning a cooking pot)

Sturgill Simpsons cover of The Promise by little known 80's band When in Rome shows how the same song can be SO different.

'September Gurls' by the Bangles.
Electra

Roxy Music - Jealous Guy
Hound of Love

Dave Stewart (not the Eurythmic) & Barbara Gaskin - It's My Party (a number 1, and rightly so).

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind

Donna Summer - State Of Independence

Good call from the OP, with Blancmange's Abba cover.

Am I the only one who's confused as to whether this is covers of 80's songs or Eighties covers? Assuming it's the latter..

Grace Jones - Pars (Jacques Higelin)

Soft Cell - Tainted Love (Gloria Jones)

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence (Beatles)

Blondie - The Tide Is High (The Paragons)
Eraserhead
15-05-2015
Paul Young - A Soldier's Things (Tom Waits song)

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Surfin' USA

Kirsty MacColl - A New England (Billy Bragg song)

David Bowie - Wild is the Wind (a bit of a cheeky inclusion. Originally appeared on the Station To Station album in '76 but was released as a single in '81)

I'm confused as well. I think it's covers of 80s songs as the OP has mentioned Kish Mauve (who I had to google as I've never heard of them) and they were formed in 2005 which would suggest it's covers of 80s songs.

Ok .. it was supposed to be covers of 80's songs .. but the first 2 i picked were 80s songs covered in the 80s ... was i trying to be too clever !?

IMO, a contestant for worst cover version of all time. They absolutely butchered the song and ripped the heart and soul out of a song that was absolute perfection in it's original form. Replacing Teddys beautiful soulful vocal masterclass with Jimmys high-pitched caterwauling shouldn't have been allowed

Agreed 100%. With any 80's song covered by Atomic Kitten a close 2nd. But that's me getting off topic

But you're not going off topic as the thread is about covers of 80s songs (see post numbers 12 & 13)

Regarding Atomic Kittens atrocious 80s covers. Out of: -

The Tide Is High
Ladies Night
Eternal Flame

Eternal Flame was marginally the best (but not better than the original)

I thought it was about cover versions that were done in the 80's (as the Don't leave me this way cover was)

Probably agree with your order of Atomic Kitten's covers. Their version of Eternal Flame is still quite moving but not to the same effect as the original

The OP says
Quote:
“what's your favourite cover versions of 80's songs”

So your AK ones fit whereas Don't Leave Me This Way is the one that is off topic. But then it's DSn going off topic is the order of the day
